Bush Urges Blacks to Consider What Dems Have Done for Them Lately
By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Morning Editor July 23, 2004
(CNSNews.com) - President Bush came right out and asked African-Americans for their vote on Friday. In his address to the National Urban League, Bush said he understands that the "Republican Party's got a lot of work to do." And he urged Democratic voters to consider some questions.
"Does the Democratic Party take African-American voters for granted?" It's a fair question, Bush said. Do Democrats earn your vote and deserve it, he asked?

Perhaps a SIG, or a Glock, or a good old-fashioned 1911?
You answer with this fact: for every dollar spent in Mexico, $3.00 comes back into the United States.
Probably not ... now you've got me wondering: did they even have sales tax then? Yet another topic for obscure historical research.
These are exactly the sort of things I have been waiting to hear from any Republican politician and I'm thrilled President Bush has finally done this.
I thought it was outstanding...spoken with heart and true passion.
He only needs about 10% more of them to turn the election. And to the others, I saw both this and Kerry's speech to the NAALCP. Kerry tried not to drone but he couldn't help it. It was a typical pompous windbag performance full of him trying to be "down wi' da' brotha's and sistah's" and all about himself. Bush WAS himself. Not polished, but very sincere, positive, and full of hope and encouragement.
I fear the masses of the "Black Community" might prefer the preachy sKerry style.
The statement was a combination of guts ( Daring to have someone question: What have you done for me?) and Common Sense( If they put you on Welfare and in project housing--is that a favor to you-when all you had to do was give up your self-respect and dignity?)
Colored you know, black, brown, mixed.. So-called African Americans. Or in non-pc terms An american with dark skin.

"I think the fiasco at the NAACP last week might have raised a few eyebrows, and those folks have been waiting for this speech at the Urban League."
***
So now I'm wondering if maybe this was the plan from the get-go. The Urban League, at least as far as I've noticed, has not been nearly as vocal and vicious toward Bush as the NAACP.
My point: Maybe Bush is sending the message that "maybe if you stop being so insulting and vicious, I'll stop in at your place too".
Notice John's revolutionary fist here. It proves he is the same anti-war protestor that he was back in the 70s when he said 'Our democracy is a farce' and that he committed attrocities in Vietnam.
It is the fist of Kerry supporting the hatred of our President.
"It won't translate immediately to significant votes, but it will start some very important and long overdue conversations."
It doesn't have to -- if he goes from say, 10% to 13-14% of the black vote, it's HUGE. And then there are, as you say, the long term effects of those "long overdue conversations"...
Bush supports Nafta and has kept it as HIS policy. He has actually expanded it through Cafta. Want to try and hide behind the definition of the word "is".. people are smarter than that.
Looks like an obvious misspelling. The word probably is "institution".
WOW. Ya gotta hand it to GWB.
No, man. He's just down wid da brothers.
Black Power - you know what I'm sayin'?
I agree completely, assuming that the speech does actually get coverage and people (ALL people) get to hear this tree falling in the woods.
The traditional solutions of the Democratic Party ALL involve the embrace of victimhood, what I like about Bush's approach is he is asking them to ditch victimhood, he is not compromising conservative principles by offering them group entitlements.
it's the same ol' democrat plantation--using race to divide america.
on the one hand, we're told that bill clinton was the "first black president", but it was w that put 3 outstanding blacks closely to him. and, blacks have the audacity to call bush's appointees racist names.
the democrats hate cheney and halliburton, but what's edwards done fo' po' folk?
he made health care more expensive for working people, and he made tens of millions doing it.
Bunk. What's sending our jobs overseas is the license to do it granted by Nafta along with the greed of those that can do it. Greed and license. Ya'll just blame it on regulation. When it comes down to it, if you strip all the regulation and the companies stopped paying 5% tax and payed none, they'd still outsource because they can pay a minor fraction of the wages they pay here and exploit workers overseas in ways Americans would never stand for.
My job is non-union labor - as are most of the jobs going overseas. The tax code is screwed up. But, Companies have gotten tax break after tax break to stay in local communities and still bailed. You guys are so stuck on your talking points that you can't deal with the truth. You don't know what it is. These people out here on the street do.
