I am here to ask for prayers for my son, Michael. He is 20 years old. He was on his way back to school at Job Corps in Kentucky. When he left, we thought he was having an asthma attack. I thought it was just nerves causing it. During his flight to Nashville, he had such a hard time breathing, the flight attendants gave him oxygen. They almost turned the plane around. An ambulance at Nashville took him to the hospital.
It turns out he has blood clots in both his lungs. Thankfully, they are small and the doctor expects a full recovery. This was caused by a very long car trip this past weekend.
I would ask for the Free Republic prayer warriors to cover him with their prayers. He is all alone in a strange city and is very scared. Of course his momma (me) isn't faring much better.
This is a young man who has caused his family much grief over the past few years and is finally getting his life together. He just won a full scholarship to the college of his choice, and hopes to be an electrical engineer. His dad and I are so proud of him and are so worried right now.
We can't be with him right now, and it's very hard on us. Please pray for a speedy recovery and no lasting effects from the embolism. I have seen many miracles on this site and I am believing for another one tonight. Thanks, all!

I know how your son felt. About 3 years ago, I started experiencing a rather strange discomfort in my lower abdomen that grew in the span of a week into an excruciating pain that would come in huge waves which would literally bring me to my knees. I was checked out and found to have a blood clot in my abdomen. I was put on thinners and given a morphine drip. Fortunately, I survived and am now on Coumadin for the rest of my life (mine was due to heredity factors.)
Tell your son I will be praying for him and wish him a speedy recovery. If he ever wants to talk to me about it, have him send me a FReep-mail.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that Your presence and prayer surround this mother's son ... may he not feel alone but comforted. Touch him with Your healing hand, I pray ... take from him every trace of ailment ... restore him fully to health. Encourage Siouxz and her husband and family that You are standing watch over their beloved son ... thank You that he has set his feet upon a proper path. Prosper him in the way that he should go ... grant to him a life that lives to Your glory, in the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...

I'm truly sorry to hear about your son. I've survived two (maybe more) of these. The newer (and even older in my case) treatments are very good so your son should be fine. Blood thinners (heperin, coumadin, aspirin, etc.) and pain killers (morphine, demerol, etc.) The nurses told me that this is the second worst pain one can get, but the pain gradually subsides over a week or so. The prognosis for your son is good, however.

AFTERNOON UPDATE: I talked to Michael a few times today. He's pretty zonked out on pain medication. They are going to release him on Monday. I talked to his school, and they won't accept him back as a student until he has a clean bill of health. So that means he will be coming back home for a few months to recuperate. The doctor says Mike will have to administer shots to himself for a short time, take Coumadin, and get a few CAT scans to check his progress. Once he gets the all clear from his family doctor here, he can go back to school.
I am comforted and humbled by the kindness of my Freeper family. Thanks again! Siouxz

Prayers for your son, Siouxz.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, now and forever.
Amen
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed art Thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Glory Be to the Father
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning
is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Prayers for your son. When the clots are dissolved, he should ask his doctor for a complete blood test checking to see if all the factors are present. My doctors found that there are 2 factors that determine clotting issing from my blood. In other words, my blood would rather clot tnan not!
Now, I was over 60 and had borne four children, but this had never been discovered before and had never bothered me, except for an occasional leg cramp. But now that we know it, I know to be careful on long trips (move my feet around a lot in cars and airplanes) and wear support hose on a daily basis. I also take a daily aspirin and try to remember not to sit at my desk for long periods. My children will also be examined for this trait in advance of any surgery or childbirth.
I sympathize for your son on the pain that he must have felt. A pulmonary embolism is excruciatingly painful and quite scary. It is also difficult to diagnose. I walked around with mine for a month before the doctors finally believed me. The pain diminished when the upper lobe of my lung was totally blocked, and then I wa so short of breath that I thought I was dying. One doctor told me that I had a muscle strain and to take Advil. Your son is very lucky that his doctors diagnosed his problem right away. His guardian angel must have been watching over him.
Tell him to go back for that bood test six months after he is off of the blood thinners and follow doctor's orders forever after. God Bless!

By the way, I shall also add my prayers for his engineering career. Engineering is a good field of study that can lead to many different careers. My husband and bothof my sons are engineers.

I am praying for your son.
If he is in Nashville, he is in a great city for medical assistance.
He will be okay, Dear, I'm sure.
Don't worry for him. God is merciful.
God bless you and your family,
LP
