When asked by a caller how we could get Southern voters to vote for a democrat again, "Comic" Bill Maher just went on the following tirade against the South, Christians and Second Amendment patriots:
You know, that's a sore point with me in the South, the way they have a stranglehold on the electorate because... excuse me... and I love playing the red states, because when I play the red states in my stand-up act, you know, I get all the people who don't usually have someone like me come to their state, so there's a great bonding. And I feel for them, because there's a lot of smart people in the South. But in general, it is the dumbest part of the country.
Excuse me. It is. And also, they're the super patriots - the one part of the country that ever actually seceeded. The one part of the country that ever actually committed treason. And they seem to lead in how we are supposed to think. Because they are more religious. They are more "patriotic". And... umm.. I think it's just a a disservice to our...
Larry King: You think in modern day America, you can still claim a whole region is dumber than another reigon?
Maher: They lead the region in dumbness, yes they do. Because they, there's too many people that just think every problem can be solved by either more guns or more Jesus. And like I said, I'm with the people who are following their compass; not with the people who are reading the entrails of the chicken. They are the people who are reading the entrails of the chicken.
We can hope and pray. One of the things that makes the south special is that we are relatively free of his type because they think they are much too good for the south. Let them keep believing that. It's our secret weapon.
Are you back around now for awhile?
I wish.... But an election year has to be an interesting time here on FR! Will try to visit whenever possible. Lurk all the time at work (when not working), but cant log in.
LOL
in the immortal words of Red Forman...
DUMMAS
That sux. At my new job, I actually CAN log on at work. I usually don't have a lot of time for it though. But it's nice to know that if something really important is goind on, I can at least sort of keep an eye on it. I try to keep my pager on.
Big deal. Here's Belly Girl:

Oh, I'd walk across the street to "see" him all right. His opinion of the South would never be the same . .
Are you still with WM? I work with a lot of people who spend time in Fayetville for P&G.
Now that's a horrible way to describe fine Christian people. He was cancelled from ABC for intemperate remarks. Time for him to go, again.
He probably thinks calling himself a libertarian would make him seem a bit more intellectual than a liberal --- but does he support gun control? or does he want welfare programs eliminated or believe the government should be limited? I bet he's really a liberal through and through ---- he worshipped Bill Clinton which a true libertarian would hardly do.
I think this is more likely:

No. I never was. I worked for a company that contracted with Walmart. I finally decided to put my high priced education to work. I'm a social worker with child protective services. Now that's a job where I run into some real ideological conflicts!
LOL!! Me too! I was born and raised in Mississippi, but I never saw REAL prejudice and bigotry until after I married and we lived in NJ!! There it wasn't just black and white, it was Jew vs Christian, Italian vs Irish, Polish vs German! I'd never seen anything like it in my life!
