~ CANTEEN FIELD TRIP ~
Welcome to the FR Canteen's Thursday Field Trip!!
Ma decided that we needed to do something fun. She gave us a difficult, but interesting task. Here's what she wanted:
"Take the kids on a field trip that will allow our Troops to see America's best. Let them know that we don't just remember all of those that come from big cities, but from smalltown USA."

So? We began our search for smalltown USA. The first place we found is really a treat. At least three Canteeners will be able to tell you what our first smalltown USA place is like. So? Look for them on the thread.

Before we get started, the FR Canteen would like to thank Allen Muma of azjerome.com. Thank you Allen for providing us details for our FR Canteen Field Trip. You've been absolutely wonderful.

Troops and Canteen!!
Off to Jerome, Arizona for today! Enjoy! Make sure to post any pictures or facts that you may find on the thread about Jerome on the thread! (Click to enlarge all the pictures)

Located high on top of Cleopatra Hill (5,200 feet) between Prescott and Flagstaff is the historic copper mining town of Jerome, Arizona.

When the town was just a small mining camp, financing was needed to pull the copper from the abundant ore. After some coercion from his wife, Eugene Jerome made the investment. Although he never visited the town, the town took his name. (*Eugene Jerome was Winston Churchill's mother's cousin.)

Jerome's post office was established September 10, 1883 and has never been discontinued. Once the fifth largest city in Arizona, Jerome has now been reduced to a ghost of a city. Copper was the mainstay and the mines are rumored to have started over 1000 years ago by the Tuzigoot Indians. In 1882, the United Verde Copper company was formed by James A. McDonald and Eugene Jerome of New York, and Governor Tritle of Arizona. (For more information please click here.)

That's freakin' hilarious.

So the Dim Convention gets underway on Monday?

I'm in The Hinterlands and will miss most, if not all, of the fun. I always enjoyed turning the TV on and laughing at the weirdos for brief periods of time. Seems like they're always chanting things or doing group hugs or nauseating things like that.

No Sale

Read: Acts 8:9-25

Peter said to him,“Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!” —Acts 8:20

Bible In One Year: Psalms 31-32; Acts 23:16-35

Police officers in St. Louis have had at least one easy arrest. It occurred at the back door of the police station when a drunk driver pulled his car right up to the booking window, thinking he was at Burger King. After attempting to place his order at what he thought was a drive-up window, the surprised driver was arrested by the booking officer and charged with drunk driving.

A man named Simon also got the surprise of his life. According to Acts 8, he was a former sorcerer in Samaria before becoming a follower of Christ. His surprise came when he walked up to the apostles and offered them money. He wanted them to give him the power to lay hands on people and impart to them the Holy Spirit. The apostle Peter emphatically refused, and accused him of being under the influence of something worse than alcohol.

Peter wasn’t overreacting. It’s dangerous to think that the power of the Holy Spirit is like a product that can be bought and sold. The Spirit’s work is a gift of God that is freely given on the basis of faith, and faith alone. He has given us His Spirit to accomplish His purposes, not ours. The Spirit cannot be bought or bargained for.

Thank You, Lord, for the gift of Your Spirit. —Mart De Haan

Holy Spirit, all divine,
Dwell within this heart of mine;
Cast down every idol throne,
Reign supreme and reign alone. —Reed

We don’t need more of the Spirit; the Spirit needs more of us.

Today's FEEBLE

YOKE :

The other day my wife and I took off to do a little window-shopping.
I didn't care that much for the merchandise in the windows, but every now and again, a female sales clerk would catch my eye.

My wife caught me at it.  "You're like a kid in a candy store!"

"Yeah, well, since I'm married to you, I'm like a kid with diabetes in a candy store."

Good morning to everyone. One more day of heat coming today. We had so much raind in June, and not one drop in July. As the saying goes, "If you don't like the weather here, wait 5 minutes and it will change." Slight chance for rain today. 100 % humidity this AM. Not a good start.
