CLINTON SAYS BERGER-DOCUMENTS FUROR IS JUST POLITICS: 'WE WERE ALL LAUGHING ABOUT IT'
Tue Jul 20 2004 20:54:50 ET
Former president Bill Clinton defends his embattled national security advisor as a man who "always got things right," even if his desk was a mess.
"We were all laughing about it," Clinton said about the investigation into Sandy Berger for taking classified terrorism documents from the National Archives. "People who don't know him might find it hard to believe. But ... all of us who've been in his office have always found him buried beneath papers."

DRUDGE has learned: In an interview set for publication Wednesday in the DENVER POST, Clinton questions the timing of the Berger flap less than a week before the Democratic National Convention and two days before a presidential commission is slated to release its final report on the Bush administration's handling of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Clinton tells the POST he has known about the federal probe of Berger's actions for several months, calling the news a "non-story."
"I wish I knew who leaked it. It's interesting timing," he added.
"I feel terrible for Sandy. But I just believe his explanation because I know how much he cared about this ... terrorism business," Clinton said, describing his former security advisor as a "workaholic" who has "always been up to his ears in papers."

Anybody here care to hold their breath on a bet?
A very good time to get this story out there.
I'd rather outlive him so I can piss on his grave.
The "curios timing" angle is crapola. If this were "leaked" to hurt Kerry (by Pubbies) it would have been two or three weeks before the election not the convention.
You are making a mistake by expecting Clinton's reaction to be that which would be expected of a sane person. He is at the least a sociopathic, and possibly even a psychopathic personaly. He cares ONLY about himself, and in fact he probably hates everybody else. At his core is a psychological "black hole" of rage, drawing all light into it's darkness yet remaining ever unfulfilled.
We must have been watching two different shows (grin) because Bernstein was going on about how Tom DeLay wasn't a serious Congressperson (or words to that effect) and that DeLay was more concerned with redistricting in Texas, etc. He struck me as quite negative about DeLay and I thought Bernstein felt DeLay didn't have the right to use the term. But that's just one woman's interpretation, maybe others will have a read on it closer to yours. Be curious to get further feedback.
Actually, Clinton is one of the very few people I hate, for the damage he has done to our republic.

Yep 3000+ people are just having a whoop di do time over it x42
800+ of our gallant and brave fighting men and women are just laughing it up x42
Seems like anyone involved with you and you LEGACY endup either in deep chit or dead i guess for someone like you thats just a damn good time.
X42 hell has a special place for you and your ilk and the signpost up ahead says whoop di do !
You've just had what's called a "Cheney Moment"
Hmmm, is that a clue? Should we start a "dead pool"?
Like in whistling past a graveyard. Demo bones gonna getcha, Slick.
IIRC, less that 25% of Clinton's WH staff had the required security clearances. WJC never took matters of security seriously.
Heh. BLOOMERGATE!!
He made the same "mistake" over and over. Most Clinton Administration officials, including "The Don" himself, did that quite often. But this is all the fault of the Republicans for disclosing this fact.
That is correct.
Is this laughing about it in the same way you were laughing on your way to Ron Brown's funeral? Or is this a different way?
Go ahead and laugh all the way to jail, Sandy Bergler.
Exclusive photo of Sandy Berger at the National Archives!
Can't wait for the real deal.
I searched the web for that specific Berger quote yesterday without success ... anybody?
Exactly.
Yes. However, the standard Clinton playbook for dealing with damaging news was to release it on Friday aftrenoon, along with the appropriate spin, so that their media sycophants would play the spin over the weekend, and by Monday moring it would be "yesterday's news". The fact that this story broke on Monday belies that te "leakers" did not have Berger&Kerry's best interests in mind.
