I pointed out (and I wasn't the only one) your knee-jerk liberal reaction to someone's attempt at theological discussion.

My comment was far from "hateful".

But since you have only been here one week, I will drop it.

I don't like their politics either, and have written them about Jobs' political statements. But Gates is no better, and for what I do Linux is currently not an option. I'll stick with Apple, since it helps me do what I need to do more easily and I enjoy "the process" better than when I struggle with Windows.

Didn't know you had a proclivity for that type of thing - I'm surprised your handle isn't "tape_measure".

stop being demure - for some reason, the Admin likes the quote, and it shows up highlighted in everyone's browser.

Besides, if you were a woman, you would have named yourself "Ruler."

LOL -- you're good!

And you're right I'm a dude. But sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. I chose that name because I'm a tall lanky feller -- plus when I joined up with FR I thought I knew all there was to know about this political stuff (ah, youthful pomposity :)

Re: the tagline field, mine is white, not yellow (there's a wimmin joke here somewhere -- something about a highlighter pen and a computer screen...;)

Now, tell me why this #$&% tagline turns yellow sometimes when I'm posting!

Some browsers have a preference for setting color on selected text. You may have yours set to yellow and the tagline field, when selected, shows yellow

Maybe ;-}

Wow. First philosophy, and now calculus.

I hate it when something happens eventually, but before the end. To me, that's like one of those trick football players who goes half the distance to the goal on every play. You think he's doing well, but he never scores. Toward the end, he gains 1/128th of a yard, and then 1/256th of a yard, and then 1/512th of a yard... it gets boring. So I flip the channel to watch something else.

I'll come back a half-hour later and the guy will have just gained 1/65,536th of a yard. You can see the people in the stands leaving early.

I asked somebody about this once and they said you need calculus to figure it out. I'm told that if you can be certain that it will happen "eventually," but not at any particular time, and not at the end, then you can sorta forget about it, because it's like waiting for that football team to score. There... see that? They just gained 1/2147483648th of a yard. And that was a pass.

See, this is why they don't let Cal Tech into the Rose Bowl.

Wonder where Despartes got it?

Descartes "got it" from an analysis of existance. The first step in existance is self awareness. One must be aware that they exist before any other existance can be contemplated. The question posed to philosophy at that time was:

How can a man be sure that he exists at all?

Descartes answer to that was Cogito ergo sum, I think therefore I am

A major stepping stone in the history of Philosophy and a clear answer to some of the major existential questions of his time.

Speaking of Jobs, Wang, and the scriptures--

Did you know that Eve was the first computer user?

(highlight the next line to see the answer)

It's true. She had an Apple in one hand and a Wang in the other.

(Nobody seems to have posted this one yet. It was a dirty job, but somebody had to do it!)

You'd be surprised how many Bible thumpers have never actually read the Book.

What do you mean by "The Book"?

Allah Akbar

So, when I see commerce using the scriptures to promote themselves I track the time and see what befalls them.

I read Scriptures and don't see Steve referenced in the Good Book. Newsweek created the cover. Shouldn't you be putting Newsweek on your time tracker and see what befalls?

When they finally get down to the range of one 2-to-the-thirty-seventh-powerth of a yard, they just quantum tunnel through. And nobody sees them during the play because they don't exist.

Have any of the Appleistas (Jobs or any of the corporate principals) ever said what the "apple with a bite out of it" logo is about? If it is an *intentional* mockery of a story in the Holy Bible, it doesn't matter if it's inaccurate - the Bible doesn't say it was an apple -, what matters is the intent. Mocking the Christian Book is not a profitable strategy. It could have something to do with why it is that Apple's OS and boxes, thought to be superior by some computer gerbs, has such a small part of the market. BTW is it true that the original iPod, that cost several hundreds of dollars, was essentially designed to be disposable? Jobs wanted you to buy a new one when the difficult-to-replace battery wore out?

It’s very clear that I have erred. It seems that the Newsweek front cover is basically inferring that if it weren’t for the iPod, Steve Jobs would be Not. It’s apparent that the iPod is keeping Apple alive. Hence, the phrase “iPod, therefore, I am”. I got it.

Thank you all for your wonderful replies. My favorite one was “I drank, therefore I swam”. I’ll be a bit more apprehensive before I post.
