FReeper Suggestions To The RNC War Room Monitors: Opinions, Questions, and Advertising Ideas From Your Base

Since reading the post the other night which mentioned that the RNC staffs a 24/7 War Room to monitor media and internet traffic for new ways to define the opposition, I thought that there should be a thread where we can offer constructive ideas to help in the effort. By using a single thread for this, we can save the monitors some time - if you have an idea that would help President Bush or any of the other Republicans, please post it here. Likewise, if you are replying to a different thread with an idea, please link it to this thread as well.

Hi guys at the RNC! Here's my ideas.

I really don't want Republican hands on this first one but perhaps they can connect us to the right benefactors. What I want to see is a 527-type group sponsor an ad campaign whose purpose is to remind Americans why we are fighting the War on Terror.

I envision a commercial which simply says "Why We Fight" with images fading in and out of 9-11 (all three places), the U.S.S. Cole, Khobar Towers, etc. showing the violence Al Qaeda has inflicted upon us.

I don't want the ad campaign to endorse a candidate or a party. This way, it can perhaps fly under the radar of the Campaign Finance Reform Act that Bush foolishly signed. No candidate voices at all. No narration either. Let graphics with the photos say what the photos are of if ncessary.

The message itself will serve to remind Americans why we went to war since the media wants so badly for us to forget why (and cast doubt on our resolve). I think the reminder will help Bush and all Republicans who have supported Bush on the war.

The same concept can be powerfully used both in television spots and print advertisements. And you'll know they'll be effective as soon as the Democrats scream "foul" which they surely will.

The other issue I would bring up repeatedly is the Democrats attempts to discount military ballots in Florida in 2000. We have the memos so the Democrats can't deny they were doing this. Particularly in Florida media markets with a strong military presence, I'd hit this issue hard.

Why? First, it puts the Democrats on the defensive and illustrates who exactly was attempting to disenfranchise voters - worse, the people they sought to disenfranchise are the very ones now fighting and defending our country and putting their lives on the line for us - yet the Democrats tried to prevent their votes from counting.

Secondly, it will blunt the criticism sure to come about how Bush supposedly "stole" the election and prevented votes from counting. You know the other side hasn't let go of this so let's bring this out in the open because the facts are on our side.

Lastly, it should firm up support, not just from the military who may be weary of extended stays and other negatives from the war itself, but it will also shore up support from spouses and other family members who might be tempted to side with the "Vietnam Veteran" (notice they never say "Vietnam Protester"?) thinking their loved one would somehow do better under a Kerry administration.

The issue would prove the Democrats don't have their best interests at heart and can't be trusted to do the right thing.

Florida is going to be very important again and I think this issue (even though it doesn't directly touch Kerry and Edwards) is going to strike a nerve for many voters who might be tempted to give Kerry the benefit of the doubt.

Terrorist Training Site in Iraq

You would have to be smoking dope to not realize that there was a connection between Iraq and 9/11/2001 and with the train cars in these pics, a connection with 3/11/2004 in Madrid. But of course, some people do inhale!

One more thing, War Room guys:

Stay the heck away from Vietnam! What you need to have Bush say is that there is a war on NOW that's more important than one that was fought 30 years ago. Say you respect Kerry's service to his country but it's not important to today's issues and then segue it to the War on Terror. Every time.

The Democrats and the lib media want to portray this as War Hero Kerry vs. AWOL Weekend Warrior Bush. So don't go there. Don't play their game. If necessary, let the surrogates pick away at Kerry's war record and protester past but DON'T EVER let GWB get near it. EVERY time Kerry brings up Nam, Dubya brings up the War on Terror and what he's doing TODAY that makes America more secure. Most Americans will understand that what someone is doing in THIS war is more important than what he did in a war that happened 30 years ago. Instead of deflating Kerry's war record, we need to build up our current war record.

Flight suit pictures. They work great with a certain demographic that thinks GWB is a hunk. This needs to show up in some of the ads, particularly with the Breck Girl now on the Kerry ticket.

The fundamental thing is-

DON'T BACK AWAY FROM 9/11 or foreign policy in general!!!

You should reshow video of the attacks. Juxtapose them with images of Saddam's torture, North Koreans goosestepping, Osama celebrating, the Bali's bombings, Castro and cubans in the water, the bombings in Spain.

Show image after image that freezes the blood. Audio of Kerry and his most embarrassing verbal slip ups, to comments on spending or calling for cuts on the senate floor, etc.

Then darkness. Then Saddam in custody. Images of the troops. Then some good stories of rescue during 9/11. Imagine of Saddam's statue being pulled down. Images of the shock and awe campaign, government in Afghanistan and Iraq assembling. Images of reconstruction and people cheering. And audio of GWB's best positive moments, from the SOTU to his famous 'and they people who did this will hear all of us soon!' rally.

Then at the end, it goes white. And silently, says in black text "America, you now have a decision to make."

If you want to 'define' Kerry - for God's sake, do it with a sense of humor, not the bitterness of a 'professional pol'. Let the Dem be that way. Let Soros run those sorts of ads.

Take the high road. That doesn't mean take the elitist road, or pretend that all's well, or things come easy. Be confident, however. Don't be smug. Don't be Ivy League, as it were. But be confident. Show people you care. And that the complaints fall off like 'teflon'. The 'on-message' is that you are interested in the voters, and their concerns, even on social issues, particularly, and based on that then the pocketbook and neighborhood issues, and such.

Don't become Rockefeller Republicans. People don't respect that. If they want a Dem, they'll vote Democrat.

Consider Henry Hyde, and Michael Reagan, and others, for the limited prime time coverage in addition to the nominees, Arnold and McCain. This is an election of the base, not the uninformed 'center'.

As others said, help promote the Vets against Kerry. Help promote Catholics against Kerry. Let the Vets showcase their bravery in ads, and leave their recommendation that Kerry is unfit as CINC. Let them consider his film crew 'in country', and similar, and what that was all about. And so on. But try to find the humor of it. And be sure of the facts and how others might excuse it all, or attack the messengers.

It's not really as if the GOP needs any such suggestions. But I would strongly encourage them to consider not just the words of Reagan, but his attitude. Don't be arrogant - or 'distant'. But do point out the gaffes and failed predictions and charges in the press and from others of the Dem. It's a great big joke. And there's no problem in lightly presenting it as such, and if people know you still care, are serious, and think that America's best days are still ahead of us.

Use the bully pulpit more often to inform the public of the truth that the mainstream media refuses to address.

Point out how Wilson admitted that he used "literary flair" when he accused Bush of lying about Iraq trying to purchase yellow-cake from Niger.

And quit saying that no WMD's have been found, because they have been. No expected stockpiles of WMD's have been found, but how much sarin gas is required to kill thousands?

Also, a very hot issue with republicans is illegal immigrants and the White House needs to stress actions that have been taken to thwart the flow. It would also help if plans were made to increase the manpower needed to deport all illegal immigrants.

The problem is that the general public hears the lies and distortions perpetrated by the media, but there is seldom any rebuttal from the White House and leading republicans.

Take advantage of the bully pulpit!

You wrote in your post that it was your opinion that Bush or the RNC should not "sink to that level" of pointing out what Kerry did to his fellow soldiers with his activities in the states after his time in Vietnam (did you know he was in Vietnam?). I just don't think the RNC would be "sinking" to any level in any way.

I am a Vietnam era Vet ('69-'71), and let me tell you, activities such as his were destructive to the war effort, to the soldiers still overseas, and to ones like myself when we came home. Just walking through an airport in the uniform was not a pleasant experience, as all the whacko war-haters and hippies gave you alot of heat. They were lucky we were in uniform.

Anyhow, I think we basically agree on all this. No matter who should put out the ads, the Swift Boat Veterans' words should be heard ........ loud and clear and OFTEN.

Kerry is a sleazy, fraudulent opportunist, and only used his time overseas to do what he is doing now, running for President. He is UNFIT FOR OFFICE.

Pray for G.W. and this country.

Totally agree. If and when the average American voter REALLY finds out what the 'Swift Boat Veterans' group thinks of Kerry, they'll run away from his opportunistic a** in a minute.

Those men must be heard, and the mainstream media has very effectively and, in a very unprincipled way, ignored these good men. It is disgusting how the media is shaping this election by avoiding news and outrightly lying about events. The RNC must step up and make this clear or we lose!

Wanna' know what's strange about that?

When I lived in Mass in the 80's, I knew a guy from the Forbes clan (and his name was actually "Forbes"), and in addition to disliking John F. Kerry, he didn't have any trace of an affected Brahmin accent. He was just a normal guy who would shake his head in disdain whenever the topic of JFK came up.
