The irony of all this is that Whoopi's comments may have had very little to do with her dismissal. I suspect Slim-Fast was simply looking for an excuse to fire her . . . because her beam is a bit too wide for someone who's supposed to be selling a weight-loss product.

Goldberg averred that “The fact that I am no longer the spokesman for Slim-Fast makes me sad, but not as sad as someone trying to punish me for exercising my right as an American to speak my mind in any forum I choose.”

Whoopi is not in jail, she has not been arrested and she will not have to pay a fine.

Good job explaining the obvious to those who are more intellectual than I. Good luck on getting it published. I hope to see this fine work in print soon!

If Goldberg and what she says is the "heart and soul of America" like Kerry and the Breck boy says, why are they agaist the release of the tapes so that we all may see it? I'd like to see the "heart and soul of America.

"America's heart and soul is freedom of expression without fear of reprisal," she said in a statement.
Did someone come to her door and saw she was being arrested for speaking her mind? Did a government official torture or interrogate her for speaking her mind? Seems she did speak her mind without fear of reprisal then.

Whoopi's public (or pubic?) vulgarity was stupid and adolescent. She presented a tiresome and vulgar negative stereotype of educationally-challenged minorities. What a loser...

I'll betcha anything Whopper Goldberg never gets invited to be MC at the Oscars again.

This is a prestigious and lucrative gig and one she'll regret not being tapped for. Her stupidity and grossness at the fund-raiser will be the gaffe that keeps on giving.

Delicious!

Jim, can you post a transcript of Whoopi's remarks? I haven't been able to find a copy.

Q: Why did they hire Whoopi?

A: They thought her celebrity would help them sell more product.

Q: Why did they fire Whoopi?

A: They thought her celebrity would not help them sell more product.

Whoop-asse got canned. (pun intended)

Martha Stwart, convicted criminal & prison inmate has been retained by K-mart. That is fine, that is their perogative, but it is also my perogative to stay our of K-Mart and not give them my business, which i will do so as not to condone criminals, or their employers.

"SlimFast must realize that black women have every right to voice their views.”

Jeez, what a dumbass. I wonder if I do a GOOGLE search if I will come up with anything indicating that SlimFast has ever, however remotely, expressed any view, that black women have no rights to voice their views.

Good article J.

Well, the race-baiters are out in force. Now it is just a matter of time until Jesse Jackson is marching, with his trademarked grim expression, on Slim-Fast headquarters.

Jesse's mantra for the 2000 election was "Stay out the Bushes!" Wonder if he'll be using that one again this year.

This is absolutely right on the money!

Most entertainers think because they are in the limelight, this should give them the right to do or say anything they want. WRONG!

Politics are dirty business.  America is split 50-50.  Most entertainers think that for their fans, the sun rises and sets on them, and that they will be able to influence their fans to their way of thinking.

WRONG!

In order to satisfy their total fan base, they need to stay out of politics.  They voice an opinion (in a public forum) about their choice for President, and 50% of their fan base is voting the other way, this could leave the entertainer 50% short on their fan base.

I have turned against many entertainers this time around just because of their stance on politics.  I have a very bad taste in my mouth for them, when I used to have love.

If an entertainer wants to get into politics, they need to get out of the entertainment business.

Simple as that.
