Did you know......?
If you were born in July, your birthstone would be the Ruby. Ruby comes from the Latin word rubber meaning more red. Rubies comes in a many shades of red, it depends on the chromium and iron content of the stone. It is the second hardest mineral known to exist, diamond is the first.
Legends & Lore:
Ruby is known as the love stone; it is given to open the heart, reconcile lovers quarrels, express passion and promise love. It is believed to stop hemorrhaging and inflammatory disorders. Ruby is the gemstone for Wisconsin.
If worn on the left hand or as a brooch on the left side the wearer would live peacefully with his enemies.
An ancient verse:
"The gleaming ruby should adorn, All those who in July are born. For thus theyll be exempt and free, From lovers doubts and anxiety".

Flower for July
Larkspur is the common name for flowering plants in the buttercup family. Colors range from a pale pink to deep purple. There is a white variety as well. Larkspur can attain heights up to 7 feet. In the past, the name larkspur has been used interchangeably with the name delphinium; however, they are now considered to be separate genus's; the larkspur is annual while the delphinium is perennial.
The name larkspur comes the belief that the flowers looks like a lark's foot: larkspur, lark's heel and lark's claw have all been used.
The color for July is pink and means open heart, pink in particular means fickleness and talkativeness.

But enough about jewels ... can't eat them! And flowers, though some are edible, simply cannot compare to ICE CREAM!, and I think I hear the distant sound of the ice cream truck....

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Sistah, can't you now eat the low carb ice cream made with Splenda? That's what I eat all the time and it's better than the regular ice cream. Edy's makes a chocolate mint that is really good. And Bryers makes several flavors that are good.

A timely thread Ms Billie. We are hosting an "Old Fashioned Day" at our campground this Saturday and there will be lots of home made ice cream. This is one of the reasons I'm being so scarce these days. Too much going on to keep up with. I won't be here much until after the county fair in August.

The old hand-cranked ice cream maker is vivid in my memory too jw. Ice chipped from a big block in the underground cellar. Real cream and fresh fruit, and lots of family to share the results. Good memories.

Hi, Nan!!
I use Splenda in my iced tea, and enjoy that.
As to ice cream, a lot of "sweet" things are just TOO sweet and recoil - - same with jelly, even sweetened with aspartame, so seldom have toast anymore.
Any chocolate is 'verboten' - rejected from a churning stomach.
Fortunately, I am an exception to the 'Woman Who Needs Chocolate' category - never really craved it or sweets, thankfully.
Have to restrict fruits because of the carbs, and because I build up TOO MUCH potassium.
Bottom Line = Weird Body - lol
