HOMELAND INSECURITY
Backup electrical systems failed to kick in
A mysterious power failure at Logan Airport that delayed dozens of flights for more than five hours has still not been explained six days later.
Airport officials insist airline security was not compromised during the blackout Monday at Logan International's Terminal E, but backup electrical systems failed to kick in as they are programmed under such circumstances.

"wouldn't that imply that they'd try to take the aircraft?"Absolutely. Remember this is a group (AQ) with demonstrated expertise in learning from experience and who track our doctrine and cultural philosophy. The moment the state militia aboard flight 93 reported for duty and subsequently accomplished their mission (God Bless them) the AQ was preparing a counter. They now know after watching the ugly scene of the shoe bomber Richard Reid that the passengers will no longer act like sheep in the face of a hijacking. The entire aircraft will fight like animals to the end. Also they know that we are arming both our flight crew in the cabin, teaching unarmed combat to flight attendants and sticking highly trained (??) and loaded fer bear sky-marshals on board target aircraft. IF they think they can get a big bang for the buck out of another hijack, they will train for all of these contingencies. That means that despite all of the foregoing, they still think they can pull it off.

Powerful 10-kiloton strikes against certain dams on the Mississippi River, the Missouri River, and the Ohio River could perhaps flood the Mississippi basin. The whole basin would not be flooded, but all the bridges would be washed out and the country would be cut in half. New Orleans would be a lake, and lots of damage would occur all along the Mississippi.

So the bathroom thing may actually be for combining otherwise innocuous chemicals to temporarily disable personnel?

The initial reports from the SW flight at BWI last night:
" Fire officials say ten people have been
overcome by fumes aboard a plane that sat on the runway
Thursday night at BWI.
Officials told a local television station that four people
were transported from the scene in critical condition,
and six others were in serious condition.
Others aboard the plane reportedly complained of upset
stomach and lightheadedness.
Fire crews from Anne Arundel, Howard and Baltimore counties
were on the scene Thursday night as well.
The plane reportedly was a Southwest Airlines flight from
Houston that arrived around 10:45 pm with 125 people
aboard."

"Maybe someone (Abu Nidal bunch?) in the ME has written an opus on all the hijackings from the 60's and 70's..."Good catch, DC! I think a lot of those groups like Abu Nidal and Black September have been attrited into being non-operational, but it wouldn't surprise me if some of their folks are in a teaching capacity to our current crop of problems. Those golden oldies were almost exclusively funded from the USSR IIRC.

The bathroom trips, or the suspicious powders that keep appearing all the time on flights.
My best guess is they are looking for some substance combination that would render the passengers unconscious so they could take over easier, and they've been experimenting with combinations of substances that are brought on by several passengers and combined in the restroom ( or elsewhere)

I lived in FL for a stint during our Rural Medicine track.
I don't remember fires as a natural disaster. Is this normal?

I dunno. I think it would take a large amount of any chemical that would need mixing to disable an airline cabin. Unless there was a "package" prepositioned by a terrorist that had infiltrated the airline itself and could get aboard to plant something on the target aircraft. I don't think there's anyplace available in your typical aircraft toilet that would allow for this.

BEEN MY QUESTION FOR A LONG TIME.
And if we don't say ahead of time, no deterrant value in our targeting.
If we do say ahead of time, give Russia and China umpteen days and ways to sabotage, prevent it.
Lovely contingencies /sar

So now they're willing to spend 14 per aircraft. Why are they fighting the last war?
There must be a pretty good reward for them, knowing that a hijacked aircraft would be shot down. Something fast, implemented just before landing. I have a hard time imagining that they want more skyscrapers. Gotta think.....

Yup. Whole dang state is a tinderbox ever summer. The Everglades burning is one sign of summer. Fires upstate have gotten worse within the last ten years, though. Must have something to do with weather trends. Although fires in the 'Glades are caused usually by lightning, the fires upstate are often arson. ~sigh~

They need to control the aircraft in order to hit our most "sensitive" targets, right? Flight 93 was headed somewhere in DC.

stupid question time:
What is the chemical used in the head itself?
Ignoring that for a minute, who cleans the aircraft? I remember an undercover news story in ATL shortly after the towers went down. A reporter was hired as security, with no background check whatsoever, and he had access to the cockpit, and planted a pager under the captain's seat.
