Greg Summers (aka Sultan88) paased away this morning in a Petersburg, Virginia hospital. He's been sick for some time, but this news came as a total shock to me.
Greg was a kind, gentle man, who had a passion for all things that make America great...I am honored to consider him a good FRiend and he will be greatly missed by myself and all those who got to know his wisdom and sense of humor on FR.com. This is simply devastating news!!
My prayers go out to his family, including his son who we've come to know as 'yankhater" around here.

My father considered you to be a dear friend and compatriot.
That's very flattering, Mark. Thank you.
I was just reading through your father's profile page here, it's very moving. I'm sure he was a great man.
May the Lord comfort you and yours.
I submitted the update to Mr. Robinson, it should be posted shortly.
Regards...
Logan

Allow me to pass my condolences to friends and family of Sultan88. I regret I did not have the opportunity to know Mr. Summers as well as I would have liked; certainly I can appreciate his positive influence on this world by reading the comments and tributes given to this man through the comments made by all of you. A small portion of this man's thoughts live on through FreeRepublic; I am appreciative of the ability to look back over his posts and get a sense of the man through his words.
My condolences moreso are to all of you who must now press on without him; you are the ones who must suffer, for we are all still here, not yet having attained perfection. Draw comfort from the knowledge that Greg Summers now resides in Paradise, as the promise of our wonderful counselor has surely been kept.

It was a very moving service this morning, your father has definitely touched many people in a very positive way. As the Pastor kept referencing, it is ironic that a man with such a serious congenital heart condition would live with such a passion for life, his family, sports, and politics. The lady with the guitar was very good, and I don't believe there were many dry eyes in the place when the organist played Greg's favorite Christmas carol, "Oh Holy Night."
My prayers go out to you, your sister, and your mother...as a lady said to me when we were leaving the funeral parlor, "We lost a good one this time!!" All I could do was nod my head and say, "Yep."

"A small portion of this man's thoughts live on through FreeRepublic; I am appreciative of the ability to look back over his posts and get a sense of the man through his words." It is reassuring to think that as we continue to lose more good patriots in the future, we will always have this source for salvaging many of the fallen's most passionate thoughts about politics and life. The pastor at Greg's funeral read passages from three different posters on this Tribute page, including the words of his son, Mark/yankhater. These were touching passages that gave you a good understanding of the man we lost last Thursday morning. The pastor even quoted from Sultan88's profile page, citing Greg's favorite scripture verse, Eccl. 10-2, the one that talks about a wise man going to the Right, while the fool tends to the Left.
As Greg's health continued to worsen, he always had FR.com to access the political world he loved so much. We were lucky to have him around as long as we did.

"We gathered other like souls for lunch at the officers club on base and formed Friends Of the Constitution of the United States (FOCUS) at a table in the rear of the club where we dicussed politically incorrect subjects. Even when they changed the tablecloth to white, we always had the RTM there as well as in other resturants in the area." Thanks fer sharing that, my FRiend...Greg's introduced me to both "FOCUS" and the RTM, but I'd never known the genesis fer either. Looks like the Sultan's always been one to bring others of like mind together.

I just got back into town, and am shocked to see my friend Greg has passed on. He kept very quiet about his problems lately, which should have told me he was getting worse, but I was too obtuse to notice. He worked two cubicles down from me, I can remember he had the most politically incorrect decorations, but was polite even to the flaming liberals here. He always hoped he could convert a few, maybe he succeeded.
I apologize to you, Mark, that I was not aware of your father's passing until late yesterday. It makes me very sad to lose such a good one. I pray for you, your sister and your mother that God may comfort you.

Thanks for describing the funeral for those of us who could not attend. It sounds like it was a wonderful celebration of a life that has touched so many.
We will all meet again one day....

Yes, and in the meantime, please ping all the RTMers about lunch on the 20th of July...we will toast in Greg's honor. But we still need to finalize a location.

"...shocked to see my friend Greg has passed on." It caught all of us flat-footed...there he was on Wednesday, posting away per usual, then Thursday morning, we got word that Greg had died. Except fer a few self-deprecating comments about being too old and sick to attend this function or that, Sultan never complained about his health problems, so many of us thought we was working through them and would be back to his old self after some R&R. It is very sad to learn that we were wrong.
