P.S. - I printed out the 6 panel pdf pamphlet to bring on a party boat out of Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn tomorrow. I had to write the URL on it since it only has the hotline number. I figure the captain might be interested in checking it out. I'm going to post some of this over on at least one of the fishing boards this week, it should get a good reception by most over there.

THANK YOU for sharing a SPECIFIC example of the type of suspicious activity that we should all be looking for.

If only the FBI & DHS could be so clear and instructive when asking folks to be vigilant. They should learn from the freepers!

I didn't need mid-rats because I knew how to jimmy the wardroom pantry door. Ham and cheese sandwiches on me. (at least 'til our STG2 got busted and they took him from a frocked E-6 to a E-4, but the Capt. re-instated him just before his true advancement date)

Thanks tonk,

I had to send this one to the Hubby at work.

I still have my CDL, and I am not sure how long a FBI background check is good for but I have had FBI background checks for former employement.

Semper FI,

Webmaster and Plank Owner
Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Examiners Association

Commercial fishing is one of our nation’s most hazardous industries.
The Coast Guard is committed to increasing safety in the fishing industry.
The main objective is to increase compliance
with the minimum safety requirements found in
Title 46 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 28—
Requirements for Commercial Fishing Industry Vessels.

"...Between 1999 and 2003, for the US, a total of 528 uninspected commercial fishing vessel
were lost and 291 fishermen died.

“These figures clearly demonstrate that the death rate for the uninspected commercial fishing vessel industry is unacceptable in comparison to other segments of the maritime industry and the American workforce in general,” the analysis stated.

Furthermore, data compiled from voluntary dockside examinations “show conclusively” that increased survival rates of both fishermen and vessels are directly proportional to the proper equipping and maintenance of safety gear on vessels, “particularly when the crew has been properly trained to use these systems effectively in emergency response scenarios.”

Yet the Coast Guard estimates that only six percent of the approximately 90,000 uninspected commercial fishing vessels in the US today have had the voluntary dockside examination..."
