July 6, 2004 -- EXCLUSIVE
John Kerry has chosen Rep. Richard Gephardt, the veteran congressman from Missouri, to be his running mate, The Post has learned.
Gephardt, 63, a 28-year veteran of the House of Representatives, could be named by the presumptive Democratic nominee as the party's vice-presidential candidate as soon as today.
The Massachusetts senator was set to announce the winner of the veep-stakes at a rally this morning in Pittsburgh, according to several reports last night.
With the July 26 Democratic convention in Boston looming, Kerry is looking for some advantage in the polls, and is hoping his choice of running mate will be the answer.

Kerry picks Gephardt If true, Ms. Streisand must be warming up her fax machine.

With some formidable problems :)

From
this link:
Sen. Evan Bayh (search) a Democrat and Kerry supporter told me that there isn't much difference between what Kerry would do if a country had WMD and what Bush did do... preemption would also be a Kerry last-ditch position. (Bayh may get a call from Kerry to set the record straight. Who knows?)
With a #2 like this, who needs an opponent? :)

FoxNews saying it is still up in the air.
Kerry supporter analyst guy says Edwards is top choice.
Winner is supposed to be notified around 7:00 a.m. (moments away) EDT.

I suppose he thinks this will help him in Missouri. Now Hillary can help him campaign ...
To: mewzilla
Yeh. Whomever gets the pick knows he/she wasn't first choice. That was McCain.
Now, FoxNews is saying 'news' might be delayed and should be announced between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. EDT.
Kerry could be milking it; it is the most interest that the general media has shown in his campaign.
CNN seems to be playing up Edwards.

Interesting CNN graphic:
Seems to point out that Kerry needs help going into the Convention.

Agree. Kerry is milking this for all it is worth. The NY Post has not been a big Dem supporter. I question the reliability of their sources. I will believe it is Gephardt when I hear Kerry say it but not before. If it is Gephardt, I think it is a poor choice in terms of energizing his base. Two old political hacks will not turn out the vote.

Someone should go start a thread over at DU....and announce Kerry has chosen.......a Republican war hero....served his country with honor....was badly wounded in battle.
The choice is BOB DOLE.

I think he may pick one guy, then change his mind, then change his mind again at the convention. Then again the night before the election.
