Our troop support group finally found a way to send care packages to our troops in Afghanistan, and I've received a couple letters this week requesting goodies. We're pretty excited about finally making contact, and are inviting others who want to show support to join us.
If you can't afford to contribute money or goods, the troops also really appreciate letters, cards and notes, and request your prayers for their safety and peace of mind.
The first set of care packages and thank you cards and notes that we sent to Afghanistan for the Fourth of July were received with joy and you can read about them on the second half of our last thread, Write a Thank You Note to a Soldier in Iraq this Memorial Day Weekend
We've been collecting goodies and contributions toward the next set of care packages to go to Afghanistan. Our contact there will send them to the troops at the outlying fire bases, and has requested toiletries, movies, paperback books, snacks, and games for them.
Also, there are ongoing requests from a group of soldiers near Kirkuk in Iraq for items for the poor village schools and children in the surrounding area, specifically elementary school supplies and children's toys and crayons 24 to a box are a special project of theirs.
The DVD/VCR was to go to Kirkuk, Iraq. I hope you used the address for C.A. for that one.
Did you mail your goodies to Mike? He just got a box of books. Is that yours?
I know you've already sent a PS1 and games, but could you use these as well? Let me know if so.
Oh, I'm sure Bagram would love one, and I'm sure Balad or Baghdad would take number 2. If not, we'll check with Walter Reed.
Done then. I should know by this weekend - I'll Freepmail you with the details.
Oh, I was just about to FReepmail you that Wes Craven's trilogy came today with How to Deal...Just in time. I'm sealing the box with requests from Kirkuk tomorrow.
MJY <------------------- hides head in shame :-)
You'd only have to hide your head in shame if you'd sent it to the wrong place. LOL!
LOL, I had to look at past FR mails to refresh my memory :-), And then I remembered writing Kirkuk on the box :-)
Please don't hold the shipment on these two PS2s - they'll probably take a week or more to get. They're display demos from a local store but the controllers will be new (you can't really refurb them successfully). I'll have my technical guru look them over for functionality before sending them, and he's got the memory modules you need to play stuff like Grand Theft Auto Vice City, so those will be in the shipment as well. I have no idea what games he has but he has a ton. Again, more later.
Oh, we don't expect to see the PS2 right away if at all.
It's a maybe. And they would go all by themselves, insured.
Don't send them to me if you get them. I'm going to give you an East Coast address, to keep the postage costs down, if you manage to snag them.
However you want to handle it. The postage is negligable, but I'll send them to wherever you want them.
Hey there patty .. thank you for the update. Do you need any help on the postage costs ?? .. I can send something off in the mail to help
I'm glad you have deep pockets. I used to before I started doing this project.
Yes, postage donation will be very appreciated, as the pogie bait box is very heavy, and the box to Kirkuk is also heavy. Then I've got alot of movies and some books piled up to go to Bagram. Then there's the box of fragiles/liquids. And more books.
And we're just opening communications and coordination with Soldiersangels, which may mean we'll be getting requests from wounded soldier starting to come in in a few weeks.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Hi! I mailed the package to you yesterday, don't know who Mike is. I'm still working on the books, have a "deal" going with a dealer to get some good buys (cross your fingers), if that happens I'll get the address from you to send them directly to a base.
My son contributed a dvd and cd to the toiletries, candy, hot weather cool wraps, (1 doz. is all I got made...got sick of the things after making them for the firefighters!)vitamins, toys, etc. Hope it will all be useful.
May have been mine, a little late out of the blocks.
Ah!
Could you FReep me a list of the titles and authors so I can direct any duplicates I get to another base?
I know it's a bit of work, but I'd appreciate it.
Your box sounds fabulous! I can't wait to see the goodies.
I'd better get these two boxes out tomorrow so I have room in the livingroom for your stuff.
Don't get too excited, it's a small box!
