I have Norton and two pop-killer programs, but my Norton can't remove Spyware and activeware on my computer.
OK, how do I get one frame of THAT video turned into a .jpg or other still photo file?
I have to know before five PM, or we're all....DOOMED.
The spyware has got into your system-including registry most likely. Some of this stuff is really bad and can do much damage. First delete all temporary internet files and cookies (save cookies for programs you use like free republic). Next, download free programs such as adaware, spybot and I really reccommend a program called pest patrol because it helps you identify where in your registry this crap is luking. Also, it can delete a great deal of this stuff and has good support. You can run pest patrol and see what is on your system (it finds stuff other programs miss). You can't delete without buying the software, but if you know your way around the registry you can delete it manually. I use Zone Alarm proffesional and have been very pleased with it (pest patrol comes free with this program). I think I paid about $20.00 for it. Once you have junk in your computer; it takes time to get rid of it. Be vigilent run you programs daily for a while. One of my kids (7) download the purple gorilla (agh.....). Zone alarm kept it from communicating, and I was able to delete it before it had done its thing. Never use weather bug-it's spyware. Popup programs don't work if the stuff is in your computer. Be very careful with google toolbar. The bad guys hijack it and use it to hijack your home page and often internet explorer. Hope this helps. Send me a message if you want more information. I have been working on keeping the stuff out of my computer for several years. Also, I would download hijack this too. Don't delete anything unless you check with someone (expert sites are out there) if you don't know what it is. Also, once you clean the system put a resue program in spybot. If you are using xp,make sure you are making restore points when your system is clean (right after debugging is best). If you go to google and type in the names of the software you want, it will find a downloading site. Be careful-only use the well known ones. Some hackers pretend to be download sites for various anti-spyware programs. Hope this helps; I personally think malicious hackers should be put against the wall an shot...sign.
I'm just a bit scared to say this, but I've never had (to my knowledge) any of the problems mentioned on this thread. Why do some people get viruses and pop-ups and spyware and others don't?
I don't think I've got any kind of different setup than anyone else.
I tried an early version and it didn't work well (well, it was an early version...); I switched back to Mozilla, which I use on all the Win & Lin machines.
I got nail last week with this stuff .. it stated with a thing called CleverIEhooker
I updated all my spywear removers and add a few just in case .. rebooted in Safe Mode and scanned my drives
I manage to get rid of a lot of them but there are two that I can't seem to remove .. but at least Zone Alarm is blocking them
If anyone can help me get rid of Inetkw and Srchupdt .. I'd appreciate it very much
Good catch. Since the previous three posts were in regards to AdAware and Spybot, I had a slight brain vacation and thought he was responding to one of those.
I've tried Mozilla, but after a few days, I decided I just didn't like the "feel" of it. I was closing windows when I just wanted to close tabs, and found the whole thing too much of a bother to keep straight. I used Netscape Navigator for my first two years (97 and 98) on the Internet, then tried IE5, and liked it. I guess I still do, and if enough people start using alternative browsers, there will be popups written for them, too.

Go to pest patrol and run their free scan. I bet you have more than 100 pests lurking that you don't know about...yet. I fix peoples computers, and this is always my first step. Spyware is stealthware unti you run the programs you may not be aware of it.

General advice? Set Ad-aware and Spybot to their advanced modes ( go to the SWI forum that has a link near the end of the above post to learn how... it's in the "pinned" forums in Malware Removal ) and run them after rebooting in "safe mode."Be sure to check for & get the latest updates. And AVG's anti-virus software found and removed a file every other anti-virus had missed, FWIW.
Quit using Internet Exploder as far as possible... you will need it for a few sites, but Firefox, Opera, Mozilla, or even Netscape have fewer problems- at least until the vermin start coding for them.
Diddle E., I put Firefox on both home machines last week ( yes, I had all kinds of nasty stuff sending my browser to X-rated sites... ) and I've been very pleased. It's small, it's fast, it will import bookmarks when you first start it from other browsers already on your machine, and I've quit getting mailicious cookies and other nasty stuff since starting using it.
Ernest_at_the_Beach can tell you more about Firefox, but it's easy to use-- just remember "right-click is Advanced Windows" and you'll find all sorts of neat features.
And finally, I'm looking at three CD's I just burned of MandrakeLinux that I am seriously going to put on both home machines- dual boot, either Win2K or Linux. I hate to make this old brain learn another OS, but it can't be any worse than the hours I have wasted cleaning up messes left by Microsoft's carelessness.
That I do not know. I had that single frame on my web server before downloading the video. Good gravy man, we need help or we're doomed.
I've been using Mozilla Firefox for a few days and haven't had any problems. Wish I could delete IE though because my husband continues to use it. I did just hide the IE button though so maybe he won't figure out where to look for it and he will start using Firefox.
I use Spybot 1.2 (just downloaded 1.3 - 20 seconds on broadband). I also use SpySweeper but Spybot seems to catch more of the baddies.
I have ran Mozilla for a few years now, and just a few days ago upgraded to the Firefox 0.91 version. Very stable, no pop-ups, fast browsing, easy to keep clean, fun modifications (known as extensions and themes). Get it!
Suggestion -- install Windows first. I recall reading several years ago, that during installation Windows would wipe out any other system it found on the drive. Caveat: I have no personal knowledge whether this is true or not. (The last time I set up a dual-boot system was in '98.)
I've used Mandrake and RedHat for years and generally liked them, but I recently dumped RH9.0 for Knoppix after I saw a big increase in performance in the latter using their LiveCD (which I subsequently installed). Thinking now of moving over to straight Debian.
