I have Norton and two pop-killer programs, but my Norton can't remove Spyware and activeware on my computer.

I'm thinking of switching to Firefox or Opera from IE. Am wondering what the tradeoff is, have you experienced or heard of any downside to Firefox?

Me too. I can't get enough of that ad. I don't know why, but I find it to be one of the funniest I've ever seen.

Two that I use, and they are both free:

Spybot
http://www.safer-networking.org/

Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Both work well, I prefer the 2nd ... but these should do all you need. Remember to refresh them often and support their pay version if you like them.

The tall guy in the middle is the best. Replay the ad and focus exclusively upon him. What a hoot.

Open the back of the computer and cut all the red wires. You won't have pop-ups on your screen anymore.

But don't forget that you absolutely must cut the last one immediately before the red LED goes to zero, otherwise it will go off in a big explo

Google pop up blocker only works 95% of the time lately.

Have to run Ad Aware twice daily to keep the garbage out.

I run Ad Aware, Spybot S&D, and my AV program regularly, always ran the 'check for updates' at the start, but found it odd that for a few months that there were no updates for AA and Spybot. Finally I went on my own to the Spybot website and downloaded the newest version. All that kinda makes me wonder if somehow some kind of virus or spyware got past my firewall and had gotten in and 'turned off' or redirected my AA & Spybot. Ever heard of such a thing happening?

Ad aware doesn't put anything in your computer. It's a look alike pretending to be Ad aware.....it's actually Adware if you look closely.

Yes, I have seen some spybots that defeated the procedure for updating Spybot Search and Destroy (by corrupting the update file DURING the update download process). VERY nasty.

Mozilla Firefox is a GREAT product , especially for surfers. I have been using it for a couple of months now , and it seems to block everything for me , sans adserve pop-ups. For some reason , that one still gets in. The tab tool on Firefox is excellent! I've just made it part of my routine to run Spybot after every time I sign off. Seems to do the trick.

I was having so much trouble that I had my husband's IT guy come and fix my computer. It took him all day. He finally just started all over and re-loaded windows and all the software.
