BAGHDAD - Downcast but defiant, Iraq's deposed dictator Saddam Hussein appeared before an Iraqi tribunal on Thursday, refusing to recognize its authority and saying the "real criminal" was President Bush.
Saddam, who arrived at the courthouse in handcuffs and chains, was read seven charges under a preliminary arrest warrant and told his rights, pool reporters granted access to the heavily guarded proceedings said. "I am Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq," he repeated. Video footage of the 67-year-old Saddam, looking thinner, haggard and with a mostly gray beard, was broadcast around the world soon after his 30-minute court appearance. He had heavy bags under his eyes and was wearing a dark gray jacket and a white shirt, with no tie. It was the first footage shown of Saddam since he appeared unkempt with a bushy beard in photographs and videotape shot after his capture in December.
Saddam refused to recognize that he was guilty of a crime in invading and occupying Kuwait in 1990, telling the judge: "I did that for the Iraqi people. How can you defend these dogs?" The judge reprimanded Saddam for his language and reminded him he was in a court of law. He looked around with half-smile, saying: "This is all a theater, the real criminal is Bush."
He arrived in a U.S. helicopter at a military base and was then driven in an armored bus to the makeshift courtroom in one of his former palaces near Baghdad international airport. Two burly Iraqi guards escorted him into the courthouse where his chains were removed. His handcuffs were taken off inside the courtroom itself, where he sat down facing cameras.
TRIAL MONTHS AWAY
The arraignment was the first step toward a trial which could help Iraq come to terms with 35 years of Baath party brutality, though it may not start for many months.
.
Hmmm perhaps members of congress were influenced by the Food-for-Oil/ "No War"-for-Oil scam.
Mr. Alkhafaji, one of two Americans named in Iraqi newspapers as a participant in Saddam's "Oil for Food" scam, gave Congressman McDermott $5,000
If we ever find/see the full extent of what the Opecker Blood Money has bought re the rats in America, we might have trials like the ones starting in Iraq.
Oh, well that's life as a Dictator, he could have ended it with a explosive vest.
Hitler was a socialist. Head of the NAtional SoZIalist Worker's Party. All New Democrats are well versed in both Hitler's and Stalin's massamathical (spelling intended) social collectivism and propaganda techniques. This isn't a coincidence. Read Goebbels. Tell me his justifications and techniques don't seem awfully familiar.
Did you even read that link? I'm interested in a rebuttal instead of taking your word for it.
"However, there is no academic controversy over the status of this term: it was a misnomer. Misnomers are quite common in the history of political labels. Examples include the German Democratic Republic (which was neither) and Vladimir Zhirinovsky's "Liberal Democrat" party (which was also neither). The true question is not whether Hitler called his party "socialist," but whether or not it actually was."
Go Saddam go. If this doesn't spell landslide for President Bush in November, nothing will! No wonder the Dims are so upset, they adored this man who had absolute corrupt POWER, and now he is nothing but a two bit blowhard, headed to the execution chambers. President Bush couldn't have a better campaign ad if he spent a billon dollars.
Still, no one beside him and an odd site; one you would not see here; the felon, reaching into his suit pocket to pull our a pen. . .
I would point out that the Allies supplied Stalin with a lot of aid militarily since the battle was against Germany at the time. In the 80's it was Iran who had to be held at bay.
Not funny.
Merle Haggard is a Great American!
NEW YORK - NBC's "Today" show was embarrassed Thursday when it aired Katie Couric batting a badminton shuttlecock while its rivals showed the first footage of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s court appearance. Click here
It's all about Katie, doncha know.
Is Haggard Saddam related to Haggard, Merle?
Thank you for asking, but unfortunately, I cannot. I did hear Dennis Prager discuss this at some length a couple of years ago, though. Here's the gist of what he said:
Socialism is a diluted form of communism. Nazism was a strain of socialism Nazi is an acronym for National Socialist Party. In other words, the Nazis characterized themselves as socialists. However, Nazism had a strong racist/nationalistic component, which is why it today is considered to be a right-wing ideology.
As for myself, I don't buy that argument. Marxist-Leninist-Stalinist ideology and Hitlerian ideology have much in common even though Lenin, Stalin and Hitler all implemented Marxist ideology in somewhat different ways. In addition, the communist Russians were just as nationalistic and racist as the German Nazis, and the Russians killed many more people.
I think the big difference is that the Russians never started a war of aggression like the Germans did. (The Russians were more opportunistic, taking and keeping eastern Europe at the close of WWII, and using proxies to spread communism thereafter.) After WWII, no one wanted to be linked to Hitler, least of all adherents of communism/socialism, even though that is the ideology which had spawned him. So it became convenient to lable the Nazi strain of socialism as "right wing."
OK was this sadamn talking or michael moore, they both sound the same to me.....
the rats right now are just shi$$in their pants hearing their talking points come out of this slimeballs mouth.
This is all theater. The real criminal is Bush!
"Kerry/Hussein - has a kind of ring to it."
It sure does.
Maybe some enterprising digital graphic artist out there could mimic the Kerry signs with this name pairing and format it for downloading and taping together and laminating. In that way, every FReeper and interested patriotic American could post the sign to make sure people get the point.
Any takers?
