Washington-AP -- President Bush doesn't seem to be lagging behind Democrat John Kerry in the polls -- despite widespread worries about Iraq.
A new poll suggests the reasons for that may be personal. A pollster says Bush appears to hold an edge among voters when it comes to strong leadership, saying what he believes, and being steady. The pollster says Kerry still has problems with some voters seeing him as "flip-flopping" on the issues.
A bipartisan Battleground Poll sponsored by a Washington college finds Bush and Kerry running about even among likely voters, with 48 percent each in a two-way matchup.
Just over half the voters surveyed say it's time to give a new person a chance to be president.
I like the guy plain and simple. I don't think his father ever had the American people behind him on an emotional level.
The pollster says Kerry still has problems with some voters seeing him as "flip-flopping" on the issues. The Bush campaign's advertising is working after all. So much for all that "Americans like waffles" bull-roar, all that money spent on advertising was wasted etc., etc.
You see, it is a problem with the voters, it isn't that Kerry is actually a flip flopping french whore.
Is that like giving a new person a chance to be "it" in tag? How inane can they get when talking about something as important as the Presidency???
Oops. you beat me.
Given the media's 24/7 campaign for Kerry, this is amazing. Imagine how Bush would do if the press was 'fair and balanced'! The very idea must give Dan Rather the hives.
Genuine people in all walks of life..eventually, like
cream, always rise to the top. Bush, in spite of the
constant bashing, will prevail. He is honest, sincere,
patriotic, and sincerely loves his God, family, and
country. That is GENUINE !!! Jake
However, this kind of reporting deliberately ignores the possibility or fact that Americans also support George Bush because they agree with his politics.
A fundamental Democratic strategy must be to diminish any public discussion implying that significant numbers of Americans agree with and support the policies of George Bush as an individual, and even, more generally, the Republican Party (gasp!).
In a related story, Charles Manson still has problems with voters seeing him as "a little unstable."*
Suprisingly enough, this joke works equally well using the name Howard Dean.....
Plain English Translation - "As a liberal democrat I support Kerry and can't understand why Bush is leading because I disagree with Bush on the issues. The American people don't agree with me and favor Bush and his policies, so I'll thrash around Rube Goldberg-style for a convoluted explanation which ignores the obvious. I'll be sure to list all the "bad" things, "despite which" Bush leads. Despite is my favorite word.
Yesterday's absurd USAToday headline - "Despite Protests, NATO Votes To Support Iraq"
Clearly the pollsters tried to craft a question likely to maximize the pro-Kerry response. The question "Do you think it's perhaps time to give a new person chance to be President?", if that is indeed what they asked, contains embedded in it the idea that this is somehow a valid basis on which to vote. Basically it's a push-poll.
I don't have a problem with this statement. The problem for Kerry is that when people are asked if they want him to be the "new person", the people balk...They don't want Bush, but they don't want Kerry either. That's where the incumbent wins.
"President Bush doesn't seem to be lagging behind Democrat John Kerry in the polls -- despite widespread worries about Iraq."
or: despite widespread worries about Iraq not becoming the quagmire we hoped it would be that would have seriously hurt Bush chances for re-election.
Well d'uh.
But of course they don't get this. Most people seem to like Pres. Bush.
My husband covered a fund raiser for him in our area, and said that GW comes across as a truly likable person, very honest and open and human. And trust me, my hubby is about as cynical as one can be. He also said he has a larger presence than his actual size. Good eye contact too.
And in yet another related story, Barbara Streisand still has problmes with voters as seeing her "a little light between the ears."
Washington-AP -- President-wannbe Kerry doesn't seem to be gaining ground against President Bush in the polls --
despite widespread lies and intentional misleading of the public about Iraq and many other issues.
A new poll suggests the reasons for that may be personal. A pollster says Kerry appears to lack the needed edge
among voters when it comes to strong leadership, saying what he believes, and being steady. The
pollster says Kerry still has problems with some voters seeing him as "flip-flopping" on the issues. The President doesn't have that problem.
A bipartisan Battleground Poll sponsored by a Washington college finds Bush and Kerry running about
even among likely voters, with 48 percent each in a two-way matchup. The poll was deliberately slanted to favor democrats.
Just over half the voters surveyed say it's time to give a new person a chance to be president, but all agreed 2008 would be the best time for that to happen.
The trouble with that for Kerry is, Kerry is not new. He's been on the national political scene for a long, long time. The man is a fossil.
GWB ended the recession in the first year of his first term, and has defeated 2 of our declared enemies in the course of 18 months.
I like victory, and I want 4 more years of Bush.
