A 23-year-old female teacher in Tampa, Fla., was arrested Monday for the second time on charges of having sex with a 14-year-old male student.
Debra Lafave, (pictured, Below) was accompanied by her new attorney, John Fitzgibbons as she surrendered to Marion County deputies in Ocala.
Lafave, who is married, is a reading teacher at Greco Middle School in Temple Terrace, just northeast of Tampa.
The new charges accuse Lafave of pursuing the 14-year-old student to Ocala, Fla., while he was visiting his 15-year-old cousin.
Detectives said Lafave had sex with the student twice in Ocala - once in the back seat of her car while the cousin drove around town and then again in the car while parked at Brick City Park.
In police statements made by the 15-year-old witness, Lafave allegedly said that she was turned-on by the fact that what she was doing was illegal, WFTS-TV reported.
Lafave has been place on administrative leave.
As for those who say the boy wasn't harmed simply because he enjoyed himself, I have to dissent.
When a crank dealer gives a 14 year old his first free hit, the 14 year old is probably euphoric. He had a real great rush for free, he felt powerful, strong and at the top of the world for hours.
As far as he's concerned it's pleasurable and a nice change of pace. So pleasurable in fact, that he might be willing to pay for a little more.
Of course, the final consequences of getting used to a little crank every day is possible death, certain financial ruin and pain for everyone who cares about you.
But on that first day, he doesn't feel one bit harmed.
Likewise, with this kid, he has now been informed that it is appropriate to betray one's professional responsibilities and one's marriage as long as an exciting sexual encounter is in the offing.
If no penalties for his teacher were involved, he would walk away with the lesson that it doesn't matter who gets hurt or how irresponsible you are - an orgasm justifies all sins.
It is up to adults to channel the potentially destructive desires of adolescents into productive and considerate behavior.
