ISTANBUL (Reuters) - White House national security adviser Condoleezza Rice Monday informed President Bush in a handwritten note of the transfer of authority in Baghdad, prompting Bush to scribble back: "Let freedom reign."
"Mr. President, Iraq is sovereign. Letter was passed from (U.S. administrator Paul) Bremer at 10:26 a.m. Iraq time -- Condi," she wrote, according to copies of the note distributed by the White House.
The note exchange took place during a meeting of NATO leaders in Istanbul. She handed the note to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who passed it along to Bush.
I believe the 28th was the real target date for a while now, and love the captions implying handing sovereignity to the Iraqis 2 days early was some cowardly way of avoiding further "insurgent" attacks.
I now go off in search of something to make for supper, and for a cold beer.
Wow! Thanks, Howlin. What a classic... Makes me PROUD!
Well, the Iraqi Ambassador to the U.S. just made Judy Woodruff look like an idiot. Did anyone else just see that?
Michael Moore will probably claim that after being handed the note, Bush sat there frozen for 7 minutes before making the decision to scribble "Let freedom reign" on the note.
No, do tell! details, please.
Oh please do tell!
How long did he look at the note before acting?
WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK THIS COULD HAPPEN TO SO MANY MILLIONS WHO JUST OVER A YEAR AGO LIVED UNDER A BRUTAL DICTATOR? Didn't the liberals cry out that hundreds of thousands of innocents would be killed in Iraq...that we would fail, etc. etc. etc.??? Liberals must have a very selfish negative core...built upon an unwillingness to love one's neighbor.
I am also THRILLED that our magnificent and deeply loving President and his incredible staff did this transfer of power in a dignified and EARLY manner, DENYING THE TERRORISTS an OPPORTUNITY TO THROW THEIR ROCKETS AND DEATH MONGERING TACTICS UPON THE CITIZENS ON THIS MOST IMPORTANT DAY!!!
HURRAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Out there somewhere are a lot of frustrated terrorist plotters.....furious that this happened without their gross hatred taking part.
Isn't it a shame that because our major media outlets are so into their liberal agenda our PResident and his staff could NOT TRUST THEM WITH THIS EVENT BEFORE THE FACT>>> WHAT A SHAME. But that is what these biased creeps who HATE our military and our spirit of freedom and love for GOD have done...they have dug a grave for themselves that has bred a deep distrust in their reporting.
That they slant the news of Iraq always to the negative, always denying the American people the benefit of seeing the WONDERS our troops and administration have accomplished and are accomplishing daily over there-even tho WE PAY FOR IT, mind you! ?
I was loving it this morning when this was all happening. All I could think of was all the jihadi and Baathists yelling S#!T!!! when it ruined their plans for tomorrow. We all know that they had plans for some attacks(they probably still do, but with a much reduced impact ;-).
I couldn't agree more. Bush has changed the playing field for all free people and introduced millions to freedom and all I hear from libs and the media is no better than Enquirer gossip. They treat the American people as if they are dumb and can't understand complex issues or else they themselves are the idiots.
GOOD ONE, PRESIDENT BUSH AND STAFF!
SMART!
SAVVY!!!
CONGRATS TO IRAQ!!! ( And too Chirac...I am sure you and tommy daschle, teddy kennedy, fritz hollings, harkins, levin, klinton, dean, kerry, gore and carter are all depressed and saddened, along with tommy brokaw, peter jennings, katie colic, matty lauer, chris matthews, danny rather and your God, mikey moore.....but, as the saying goes, ya reap what ya plant, and your crops are all dying (on the vine,<---lol, in honor of Newt!).
How I wish I could get his radio program here...puter streaming is a no go on this machine. :^(
That sucks! If it is a hardware problem, time for some upgrades, if you're at work, I don't know how to or what you need, but I know it is possible to record it. I'm pinging someone who might be able to help.
P.S. - Marks on from 6-8PM Eastern now, they gave him another hour fairly recently.
1) Give away a country
*Applause* GWB !
Thank you Tony Blair !
Thank You *ALL* ALLIES
The Washington Times might...
Woodruff kept pressing her in an apparent effort to get her to knock the U.S. for continuing to have forces in Iraq. The ambassador responded by saying that there are still forces in Japan, Korea, and Germany, and no one is claiming those countries aren't sovereign. Woodruff again pressed, claiming that the number of troops was so great, implying again there was no true sovereignty. At that point, the ambassador asked at what point Woodruff would quit questioning? 1000 troops? 30 troops? Then Woodruff immediately went on to something else without acknowledging the answer.
This whole thing sounds like something Rummy would think up.
I LOVE it!
LOL!
Those images are definately keepers!
