ISTANBUL (Reuters) - White House national security adviser Condoleezza Rice Monday informed President Bush in a handwritten note of the transfer of authority in Baghdad, prompting Bush to scribble back: "Let freedom reign."
"Mr. President, Iraq is sovereign. Letter was passed from (U.S. administrator Paul) Bremer at 10:26 a.m. Iraq time -- Condi," she wrote, according to copies of the note distributed by the White House.
The note exchange took place during a meeting of NATO leaders in Istanbul. She handed the note to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who passed it along to Bush.

Gee, you think Mikey Moore will include the seven minutes after this note was handed to the President in his next "movie"?
Just a thought......(grin)

this was done to take news away from F9/11's "success". So the sprockets came off the film in 3 seconds, so what?

Nah. Our Rep was on the radio this morning, and Pete Hoekstra said that they talked about an early handover five weeks ago and that this wasn't a surprise.

Sovereigns reign! I like President Bush's word association.
Also this Administration understands and respects the chain of command or administrative chart, if you will. Rumsfeld (DOD) had the authority. Rumsfeld handing the note is like a commander relinquishing the command. Now the President's communication goes to Iraq through the DOS - Powell. The handover this morning was brilliant theater for us, the followers of these serious events; and completely over the heads of those who do not have any feeling for the history that has just occurred.
Who thinks that it was accidental that Bush, Blair et al were on camera when the note was passed?

Watch the left claim he didn't know it was happening and had to be given a note They'll have to explain how Negroponte knew to be enroute already!

I agree, they can try and nitpick, but "reign" fits the scenario better, and "ring" would sound like it was part of America instead of their own sovereign nation.
I think such complaints from the left would "ring" hollow.

I think the decision to make the early handover was made several days ago in a phone call between GWB and Allawi.
Look in this posting:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1158806/posts
President Bush called Allawi to reiterate his commitment to the Iraqi people, said White House spokesman Scott McClellan. During the call, which was scheduled before the al-Zarqawi statement, Allawi raised the topic of the assassination threat, McClellan said.
McClellan did not provide Bush's response but said Allawi is determined to confront these terrorist threats.
At the time the report kind of jumped out at me, but I would never have guessed an early turnover to throw off the terrorists would have been part of the discussion. I think it was, and I think the suggestion came from GWB.

These photos are great, but when I saw them on FNC this morning, it reminded me of boys misbehaving in class (Bush talking to Blair in hushed tones; the message from Condi being passed to Bush (see below).
Powell: "Okay guys, better straighten up and listen!"

How many newspapers will put that note on their frontpages in the morning? Mine will. I'm going to print out a copy to cut-and-paste it on when I get it tomorrow. :)

LoL. Sad that it may be the only way to have it appear there. A few papers may print a small version of the letter on the front page. It will certainly be telling............
