There are unconfirmed reports that a soldier from the Tri-State kidnapped in April in Iraq (news - web sites) has been killed, WLWT has learned.
Pfc. Matt Maupin, 20, of Batavia, Ohio, a member of the 724th Transportation Company, was captured April 9. His convoy was attacked by gunmen using rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons.
According to military representatives close to the Maupin family who spoke to WLWT, sources are reporting that the Al Jazeera TV network has a videotape of Maupin being shot.
The military has not changed Maupin's status, and the report of his death has not been confirmed.
A tape showing Maupin being held by guerillas was released about a week after Maupin was reported missing.
Additional details are forthcoming.

So much for the Geneva Convention.
I agree , why have we allowed this news source to remain , we need to Napalm their headquarters one day when the whole group is there.
It would not happen under President Bush.
And for sure under President Kerry.
That leaves President Nader and President Peroutka for all I know, and those two are anti-interventionist.
Folks, listen up, reality check: There will be NO BOMING OF MECCA.
If true the grief in this community will be enormous and palpable. He has inspired the area to rally around him and his family and uplifted all.
This would seem to call for an appropriate response from the new authorities. I hope they don't feel the least bit constrained when it comes to using methods that we wouldn't use and that Iraquis understand.
His dog too??
Hadn't heard about the dog.
But I understand.
There should be Hell to pay for messing with things a cowboy holds dear!!!
Many prayers for the family of this young, brave hero. I have been thinking about him ever since I saw the video of him as a hostage, and have been praying for him. Prayers also for the hero Marine who is now being held.
I was thinking, if it was me, I would take my chances on being shot and do anything possible to escape. But I'm sure it's different when it's reality vs. theory.
We might do better by hiring Michael Moore to produce a documentary showing an ALLAHDAM hitting Al-Jazeera's headquarters.
Why would they broadcast this information without confirmation? The murder of a young soldier is much to serious & sensitive to report without concrete confirmation. IMO
President Bush had a meeting with his mother and father last week while he was in Ohio. The parents boarded Air Force One for the meeting. They said the President provided much comfort to them. Prayers for his family.
The transfer of sovereignty caught them with their pants down. They have to fill that air time with something.
Prayers for Matt, and his family. May God bless and comfort them in their grief.
They won't be, nothing much was done after the last few executions. Even when they faced us out in the open in Falluja (where we could have killed many who later slipped away to come back and kill more troops), orders came down to back off (to spare civilian casualties I would assume).
The only thing we can do is hope that word gets out where they (terrorist leaders) are located and a sniper team or a precision air strike takes them out. At the rate things are going, some of those terrorist leaders could even end up in the Iraqi government.
Still, prayers are with the families of those captured/executed. Nothing can be done here, but they will be taken up There.
wtF??
Oh my God! I can't believe this! My heart is breaking for Matt's family. I will have to call my son, who is at WRAMC to tell him this sad, sad news as we were just talking about Matt before he left. My thoughts and prayers are with Matt's family at this time.
Or their horse. Years ago, my dad had a horse that someone decided would be fun to chase with their pickup. They ended up running the horse over a cattle guard, breaking its legs. Crushed my dad. If he had ever figured out who did it, they probably would have broken legs, at the very least.
Why get tough now? We have handed over rule to the Iraqi People. All Americans can do is talk now. We must sit back and watch the horror. At least they shot him and didn't saw off his head while he was alive. There is no way we can do anything to avenge these deaths. We must, like good Christians, turn the other cheek and get out of that hole as quickly as possible. Let these creatures battle each other. Because we didn't act when we should have (Karbala) we are becoming a target for every wacko in that part of the world.
