WHAT WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT WACO
papillonsartpalace.com ^

Posted on 06/27/2004 7:42:00 PM PDT by MaineVoter2002

Now, with new admissions by the FBI that after six years of denials by Janet "Butch" Reno and the FBI, pyrotechnic tear gas canisters were used on the final day of the 1993 government standoff with the Branch Davidians at Waco, Texas, mistrust of government will justifiably grow, and it should soar among leftists who have been obstinately oblivious to what many view as the totalitarian instincts of the Clinton administration. Even Lynn Samuel's, WABC's super-liberal talk show host, now says she'll stand with Bob Barr and Henry Hyde to impeach this president if it's shown that Bill Clinton knew that incendiary devices were used by government agents at Waco...

What we do know about the area near Waco is that the Davidian followers didn't care about their children.

You "know" nothing of the sort.

As much as I didn't like the Clinton administration, I don't have much sympathy for the Davidian folks killing ATF agents.

Again, you make a statement that rests on an incorrect assumption. The ATF agents were shot in the back and killed by other ATF agents. You should get some information on what happened before you further embarrass yourself.

While I have not read the book-or have any intention of doing so-I have heard a discussion of how Waco was "handled" in the book. Essentially Clinton took no responsiblity for what happened, and when it came time to address the American people about the massacre (my word not theirs) at Waco-Clinton blamed Stephanopolous for holding him back and not letting him (Klintoon) take the lead and shoulder the responsibility. Oh, Billy Boy says he wanted to but he was prohibited by little Georgey, and "George's youth and inexperience caused a problem for us".

...and any President of the United States of America, should have told the ATF that absolutely no military like assaults would be allowed. You resolve this in a peaceful way or I'll hang all of you! This problem was started by the ATF, and that is unimpeachable fact. The ATF could have done the right thing and arrested Mr. Koresh at any time, but they choose poorly, and went for the big show, and then it became a revenge issue for the poor ATF souls that were killed in the stupid raid on the Davidian's home.

Even the FBI didn't or couldn't allow themselves to resolve the issue peacefully. WACO never should have happened, but the bottom line is: Something was seriously wrong at ATF and FBI, and once they screwed it up, someone of superior rank should have been able to do something to bring about a conclusion short of murdering 80 some odd men women and children for having the poor sense to attempt to protect themselves from armed assault. Did they just think everyone was going to roll over and play dead bug when the vaunted ATF goons attempted to crash into the house.

The atf got exactly what they deserved under the circumstance, and the poor grunt agents and their families, who were conned into the operation by jerks that should have known better, and the Davidian's killed and wounded in the initial assault, were the lucky ones. They died rather quickly compared to the revenge killings at the end of the siege.

No, this "operation" along with Ruby Ridge and a few other examples of "government" incompetence and "we're here to help you" philosophy, come under the banner of "never forget", which were buzzwords long before 9/11. As president of the United States of America, the decree would go out immediately upon taking office, "there will be no military like assaults on the American people"! "All government agents, will wear coat and tie, only. No assault equipment. If you can't do your job under these rules, we bid you farewell, you are not needed". All sniper operations will be under the control of the executive branch of government. The buck has to stop somewhere.

Waco was the lowest point in Government for me. I am still mad and will continue to be. This country should never wage war on women and kids, especially our own.

Ann Richards(D) was the governor of Texas at the time. George W. Bush was not in politics at the time.

I never said he was. I said that it happened in his backyard. Waco is the only big town near Crawford Texas. It is only a couple of miles.

I am interested in how a Texan feels about what happened to his neighbors. I want to know whether he thinks that the government was justified in burning down that church or not.

The strong winds and sniper fire prevented the fire department from being able to fight the fire and the poeple in the house dies.

Actually the fbi stopped the fire department at gunpoint from responding to the fire. They had to sit at the checkpoint and watch the buildings burn.

What evidence do you have that suggests sniper fire came from within the church during the final assault. I have never seen any. I don't ever recall that even being suggested. Only lots of "glint" from the surrounding area.

For me I don't know if it was Waco or Ruby Ridge. I VSIed as a Captain in 1992 and that sure was not the government that I had served. Cowards as cops, wearing black masks and burning downing churches and shooting mothers (when I was enlisted in 2/75, I was a sniper and had Ron H. wanted to have been a trigger puller he should not have gone to Hudson High....). I hope that things have gotten better, but I don't think so .....

Oops, nothing posted.I'll try again.
Sfc Barajas was Platoon Sgt of 2nd Platoon, F Co 51st Infantry from late '67 to mid '68. After Lt Lattin was killed in December of '67, Barajas led the platoon as commander. Barajas was well loved by most of us and he led us like the true professional soldier that he was.
Oh yeah, he liked to run even then.

"What they admitted to was using pyrotechnic tear gas canisters."

Thanks for this clarification and for DeGuerins first name. You are dependable as always.

"The incendiary tear gas was used on some structures away from the main house. They were not used on the primary residence. "

The FBI adamantly said they were not used anywhere until the Texas Rangers found evidence.

So you don't really know that they were not used on the main house -- you only know that evidence was not found in that location.

You are correct, Clark was CO of First Cav. and General Peter Schoomaker was the XO. I had it backwards.

" There are lots of other conspiracy minded theories but I haven't heard any credible ones. "

Tell us what you think about the unusual coincidence of 3 of the 4 BATF agents killed ---had previously served on Clinton's security staff.

Clinton mentioned them in some remarks later.

Nope, left temple. They were all ex-Clinton body guards.
Davidians did not have the type of ammo.

Other than that, you are right.

Well to honest,I haven't read it either, nor do I intend to. But doesn't it just SOUND like Klintoon to BLAME SOMEONE else for what he should take responsibility for? I live in Arkansas and we have heard plenty of rumors of things he had done as governor. Bush isn't perfect, but I believe him to be honest and responsible.
