Scenes in Fahrenheit 911 of U.S. soldiers taunting and sexually humiliating Iraqi civilians following the successful invasion were shot by Urban Hamid, an embedded Swedish-Iraqi journalist who is presently a doctoral candidate at the University of Colorado, the university's student newspaper Camera disclosed today (Tuesday). Moore has declined to respond to questions from interviewers about whether he resorted to subterfuge in order to embed photographers among U.S. forces and has been criticized for not showing footage of the abuses to U.S. military authorities earlier. But Camera reported that the controversial footage by Hamid was actually shown at a theater in Boulder as long ago as March 1 and was subsequently brought to Moore's attention. Hamid, who has lived in the U.S. for the past 12 years, told the newspaper that he has returned to Iraq three times in the past year, presumably to continue to document the course of the war. "Every time I go back, it seems it's gotten worse ... When I last went back, people were so tired and exhausted and had lost hope. It's extremely sad to see."
The far left won't change .. but I do believe many in the middle are noticing what's going on
We still have an uphill battle though .... the Dems are in a melt down mode and they will be screaming their lies even more

Urban Hamid's footage shows abuses by soldiers

One of the most controversial scenes in the new Michael Moore documentary, "Fahrenheit 9/11," was shot by embedded journalist and University of Colorado doctoral candidate Urban Hamid.
Hamid introduced "Fahrenheit 9/11" Thursday at the Landmark Esquire Theater, which held a $40-per person fund-raiser for Boulder-based Free Speech TV and New York-based Deep Dish TV.
The film opens today at Boulder's Landmark Crossroads 6 and the AMC FlatIron Crossing 14 in Broomfield.
The footage which shows U.S. soldiers taunting and sexually humiliating Iraqi civilians has sparked controversy, as Moore chose not to release it before the movie's debut. The filmmaker is being criticized because he knew about prisoner abuses shortly before "60 Minutes" broke the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in April.
Ellen Maslow, director of Boulder's Present Tense: Films and Discussion series, brought Hamid's Iraq footage to the Boulder Theater on March 1, giving people a sneak preview of controversial scenes. One of the most talked-about involves U.S. soldiers touching and laughing at the unintended erection of a drunk, crippled Iraqi.
Maslow's work with Hamid led to his meeting another director, Deep Dish TV's Brian Drolet. It was through Drolet's editor that Michael Moore saw Hamid's footage.
"He put it into 'Fahrenheit 9/11' and (it) turned out to be the pivotal part of the film that everyone is talking about," Maslow said. "And it all started at the Boulder Theater."
Hamid, the son of an Iraqi father and Swedish mother, grew up in Sweden. Today he says he slips in and out of the cultures of Sweden, Iraq and America.
Hamid lived in Boulder for 12 years, completing his master's degree in comparative literature in 1998.
Going to Iraq before the war, during the war and now in its violent aftermath, Hamid said, was very much tied to his Iraqi heritage.
"For a long time, I was trying to somehow put my other culture on the back burner," he said. "Eventually it just caught up with me."
Now after having spent time in Iraq and with his Iraqi family, he said, the importance of documenting the events surrounding the U.S. involvement in Iraq has become clear to him. He said he's glad Saddam Hussein is gone.
However, he said, "it's so important we understand this war was and is still criminal and immoral. I've been in Iraq three times and every time I go back, it seems it's gotten worse ... When I last went back, people were so tired and exhausted and had lost hope. It's extremely sad to see."
If I recall, he had a hard time just getting what he did to fight this WOT and in Iraq
There were a number of Dems kicking and dragging their feet
I agree, is past times they would have been called traitors!
You're kidding me.........right?? LOLOL! Nothing unusual there!
Don't forget...Nick Berg was ALSO supposed to appear in Fahrenheit 911, as MM had already interviewed and filmed him.
Of course, that was back in the good old days when he had a head.
I still believe the "abuse photos" were too perfect and too well-timed, election-wise.
I want to know who was *really* behind this "scandal".
In other words, how low *would* the Dems go to regain power?
I did see that curious coded message. Unfortunately, I am not very good at cracking codes. But you can bet some fine Fibby is monitoring this thread, and has it down pat.
Son of Fahrenheit: coming to a theater near you soon..Michael Moore interviews Nick Berg's head.
HOW DID AZIZ LIKE THE DUST AMONG THE URBAN EGG?
Item Five. AZIZ. Now there's a name I almost forgot.
Honestly, I don't know what to think.
Good catch. I wondered the same thing but I still don't have the dates down in my mind yet. I'll have to read this thread again tomorrow.
Excellent background info on Hamid.

Their source for their main "evidence": Quotes from some U.S. civilian on the ground in Afghanistan. A little digging revealed she is a known antiwar "activist", who doesn't believe the US should be in Afghanistan at all. And she is all of 23 years old, so of course she has infinite wisdom and is totally credible. Naturally, the NYT didn't reveal any details about their highly credible source. - 29 posted on 07/26/2002 3:33 AM PDT by FreedomPoster
