Iran seeks swap of Brits for suicide attackers

Report says 40 Revolutionary Guard 'volunteers' held by UK

Iran apprehended British military personnel and Navy vessels earlier this week in order to secure release of 40 "suicide operations volunteers" held by the UK, according to an Iranian Revolutionary Guard source.

The source told the London Arabic-language daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat that the British Army command in Iraq received the demand from the Revolutionary Guard, reported the Middle East Media Research Institute.

According to the source, the content of the message was very simple: "Release our comrades, whom you are holding, and we will release your soldiers."

We drive a newer Integra and it got through some pretty large snowdrifts this past winter (amazingly). We looked at potentially buying a VW Vanagon (so we could sleep in it when we traveled), but the horrendous gas mileage convinced us to ante up for the occasional motel bill or campsite instead. We get around 35 mpg on the highway with our present car and I kinda have high expectations now of other vehicles.

You can never go wrong with a Volkswagen.

An old thought. Maybe it has changed now. I really don't know. Love my Toyota though.

"the floating boat under a bridge"

Yes, I recall the bridge but I think I just read about a floating explosive device...not a boat.

What did I tell you? This Ben-Hur guy and Gaiacomm should have been shut down long ago. Pretty crazy, huh?

Our government is too busy questioning travelers coming back from Canada and Mexico to find out if they are bringing back prescription drugs...while people like this Ben-Hur guy are ripe for totally destructing our country with not one single individual or agency with the remotest responsibility for keeping our country safe is giving one rat's @&& about it.

Amazing isn't it? I also overheard a Delta employee tell a concerned passenger that she couldn't profile or she would be fired. The Delta employee's attitude also implied that she was a bit appalled that the passenger was concerned about a group of ME looking men and the way they were acting while waiting to board the flight. This was about six months after 9/11.

Thank God for your son and his fiance's safety Jill! I know just what that feels like because about 4 years ago my son and his fiance were hit head on by a guy doing about 60 who fell asleep at the wheel. Minor injuries amazing considering the car was completely totalled. Angels watching over our families for sure. It will take you a while to get through the shock of the incident, trust me.

The Clinton era spiked an INCREASE of money laundering.

Any insight to Grizzfan's thought?

The virus, called "Scob" or "Download.Ject" or "Toofer," apparently was deployed by an organized gang of Russian hackers who aim to steal financial data and other confidential information from infected machines.

55 people detained in Istanbul ahead of NATO summit

www.chinaview.cn 2004-06-26 05:19:56

ISTANBUL, June 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Turkey's anti-terror police on Friday detained 55 people in its largest city of Istanbul as part of security measures for the coming NATO summit due to open onMonday.

Among the detainees, 40 were arrested in one operation, who are suspected Islamist extremists believed to have trained in Afghanistan, Anatolia news agency reported.

Several foreigners were among those detained, including individuals believed to have received training in extremist camps in Afghanistan and to have fought in that country and Russian republic of Chechnya, unnamed sources were quoted as saying. Fifteen suspected Kurdish militants were also taken into police custody, including one man believed to have been sent to Istanbul to carry out bomb attacks, Anatolia reported.

Meanwhile, the CNN-Turk channel reported that Turkish security forces defused Friday a remote-controlled bomb placed under a carin the car park of Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. The device was designed to be detonated by telephone.

Turkish security forces have been on high alert as tension escalated Thursday when a bomb carried by a suspected far-left militant exploded in a public bus in the city, killing three passengers and wounding 12 others.

The NATO summit on Monday and Tuesday will be attended by leaders from NATO member states, including US President George W.Bush. Enditem

>>>The last time this happened was before the Madrid bombings.

StillProud and I were on Instant Message that night. We were IN the communications system. We found messages in spanish and saw pictures of trains and pictures of devices we were speculating to be bombs. The LAST thing we saw before being pushed offline by some method I've NOT seen before was the word Madred (spelled just like that).

That morning....was the Madrid bombings.

Lots of new info at this link...

Al Qaeda, Anthrax and Ayman

In May 2004, Patrick Hughes, Lieutenant General (Retired), Assistant Secretary for Information Analysis, Homeland Security Department he testified before the 9/11 Commission. He testified that interrogations and other evidence revealed that Al Qaeda wanted to strike the US with nonconventional weapon, most notably anthrax. The same week, the WTC head testified that while they had not received any briefing on the use of planes, they had taken steps to prepare for an attack using anthrax based on intelligence that had been received.

Al Qaeda has had anthrax, the raw seed product in its unweaponized form, since at least 1997, when it was purchased by Bin Laden through the Moro Islamic Liberation Front ("Moro Front" or "MILF"). Zawahiri, Al Qaeda's #2, is head of Al Qaeda's biochemical program. The CIA has known of Zawahiri's plans to use anthrax for a half decade. The confidante and right-hand man of Dr. Ayman Zawahiri admitted that Zawahiri succeeded in obtaining anthrax and intended to use it against US targets. Another senior Al Qaeda member (a shura or policy-making council member no less) was working for the Egyptian intelligence services and he confirmed the report in a sworn lengthy confession. Even Zawahiri's attorney in 1999 said that Bin Laden and Zawahiri were likely to resort to the biological and chemical agents they possessed given the extradition pressure senior Al Qaeda leaders faced. A recently released islamist who had been a close associate of Zawahiri said that Zawahiri spent a decade and had made 15 separate attempts to recruit the necessary expertise to weaponize anthrax in Russia and the Middle East. The US Army recipe was not used, and obtaining the unprocessed Ames strain of anthrax used does not warrant the weight given it by some press accounts. There was lax control over the distribution of the Ames strain that was used, especially in light of the fact that transfers were not even required to be recorded prior to 1997. Significantly, the individual who isolated it nearly a quarter century ago (now retired), upon being contacted, does not even report that he necessarily sent the only copy of the strain to Ft. Detrick.

Heads UP...

US security head hints at terror attacks
June 25, 2004 - 1:03PM

A top US official says intelligence chatter is heightening concerns that the al-Qaeda terrorist network might launch attacks timed to coincide with the US presidential election.

Admiral James Loy, deputy head of the Department of Homeland Security, says his agency has received no specific threats linked to the US election in November or the upcoming Republican and Democratic Party conventions.

But he says there's been a constant stream of intelligence that's been stronger and more robust than usual.

Loy was speaking after an international conference on terrorism in Vienna.

He says 70 to 80 per cent of the al-Qaeda leadership has been killed or captured since the September 11 attacks on the US - blamed on Osama Bin Laden's terrorist network.

But he says there's no room for complacency, given there were nearly 180 terrorist attacks last year.
