KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, June 22 (Reuters) - Afghan soldiers beheaded four Taliban fighters after guerrillas cut off the heads of an Afghan interpreter for U.S.-led forces and an Afghan soldier, a government commander said on Tuesday. The interpreter and the soldier were beheaded after becoming separated from a patrol of Afghan and U.S.-led foreign troops in the Arghandab district of Zabul province on Monday night, Namatullah Tokhi, commander of the government's 27th division in the province, told Reuters.
He said government troops later captured and killed four Taliban guerrillas in the same way. "They cut of their heads with a knife, so when our forces arrested four Taliban, we cut off their heads too."
I've heard they have their own special skills for interrogation of groups. Also a take no prisoners but do them in slowly!
I've been cogitating on the nature of the Afghanis v. the Iraqis, which leads me to lament the apparent lack of the Afghan-type fight and leadership spirit among the Iraqi people. I'm not saying the Iraqis are not brave; I simply do not know what they are like, if allowed to develop on their own normal path.
Afghanistan is so fortunate to have Karzai to be sorting out the territorial strivings and lead his nation at this critical juncture. I have not yet seen or heard of a similar type of leader in Iraq; perhaps Saddam was altogether too successful in weeding out the competition of strong leaders. It may take a generation or two before this type of leadership will come forth. (I hope not; they may not have the luxury of that much time to rebuild their leadership.)
Does anyone who is familiar with the Iraqi culture know if they have the Afghan or Ghurka-type fighting spirit, but that it's been edited out (decimated) among the current leadership pool, or if they are a much milder type of people?
Watch Allawi go to town on them.
No, make it a hundred eyes for an eye!!!!!!!!!!
Time to release the really bad dogs of war!
This needs to become a common practice at Gitmo too.
This "4 heads for 2" ratio reminds me of the mindset of Russians against the invading Germans during World War II: "Two eyes for an eye!"
How about that spoonful (or two) of your own medicine, Taliban?
I thought that was Ashcraft Longfellow? Or maybe Croftworth Worthcroft?
Finally. Some retribution. Let's hope it catches on in Iraq too. Sending the heads of terrorists back to their mommies will make a big dent in the terrorism.
Heads are going to roll, for sure.
"I've heard [the South Koreans] have their own special skills for interrogation of groups. Also a take no prisoners but do them in slowly!"
If I were a terrorist, that would be one type of "hospitality" not to took forward to!
Oops! I meant "look", not "took"!
Wow....
Heads are going to roll!
People are losing their heads over this.
I just KNEW heads would roll sooner or later!;)
"I have to object to this method of "warfare" as being barbaric and violating all rules of civilized warfare."
Why would uncivilized people engage in civilized warfare? Did you think this through?
I'll betcha Bush does not condone beheadings, even of our enemies.
We have better, more civilized ways of eliminating those guilty of capital crimes. Hell, even a firing squad would be better.
Our country is based on Judeo-Christian beliefs and practices, not barbaric islamist terroristic practices. Condoning beheadings is no more "American" than criticizing same is "European."
Well, at least the Afghanis are starting to get it.
Don't ever do that again.
