An armed man who tried to carjack a motorist at a DeKalb County gas station Sunday was killed when the motorist shot at him, police said.
DeKalb police said the would-be carjacker, Banarrek Von Clayton, 28, was shot in the leg and later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.
The motorist, Brian Dean, 24, told police he was at a gas station in the 4300 block of Glenwood Road at about 3 a.m. when Clayton approached him and threatened him with a gun.
Dean then took out his gun and shot Clayton in the leg, said Sgt. Willie Durrett.
Clayton was able to drive off in Dean's 1970 Cadillac Deville but crashed the car into a utility pole a few feet away, Durrett said.
Police did not charge Dean in the shooting.
Ab-so-lutley! I wouldn't give up a can of soda to some a-hole with a gun pointed at me. Mr. Glock 19 gets his dander up when confronted by a bad guy.
--->Banarrek Von Clayton
What kind of a name is that? It sounds like the AKC registered name of a Dachshund!---
Maybe he crashed because he couldn't reach the pedals?
You may want to rethink the ramifications of your thought process. 1) This same jerk could do it to your spouse, parent or kid, without a guarentee of their safety. 2) After securing the vehicle, whats to say he wouldn't have shot the guy anyway, just so there was no eyewitness? 3) If carjackers in general start to get the idea that their next carjacking could be their last, maybe they'll go back to just stealing unoccupied cars.

That's BS. I don't care if you are tryig to steal my used toilet paper. If you do it at gun point I'm gonna blow you away. End of discussion!!!!!!!!!!
Still, it's pretty lucky he appears to have struck the femoral artery with a bullet.
All in all, this was a good thing. One round expended, one bad guy dead.

F'n Kerry: "He got out of the car before he got into it. And he was shot before he wasn't shot."
That is a lot more valuable than the life of the armed carjacking scum.
I'd rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6.
"I mean what's the thing worth $200?"
So what price do you put on your dignity, your freedom?
The theif is the one that decided that his life was worth a $200 caddie. The price of Deans freedom to own that $200 caddie was just a bit higher.
It may be an old car, but it's the principle. For some people $200 is a lot of principle.
Its not the value - Its the ultimate in pimpin
In Ga. you don't need a ccw to have a gun in your car(glove box or openly displayed on seat). Historically the law has considered your automobile an extension of your home here in Georgia.
"Clayton was able to drive off in Dean's 1970 Cadillac Deville but crashed the car into a utility pole a few feet away, Durrett said."
Evidently a most sought after model of the DeVille with in dash 8-Track player, and black cloth top.
Nothing like starting the week off with a good story.

When I was 22 I had a '72 VW bus. It wasn't worth much monitarily, but it was my livelyhood. I had no money, but I had that bus. I used it for 2 jobs and to bag the occasional honey on the pull out bed on the weekends (he he). Without that bus I was toast.
"killed when the motorist shot at him,"
Reporter needs some lessons in writing up facts.
Shot at implies he missed.
Several years ago, when I carried my Glock G32/.357SIG, a car-jacker here in southcentral Penna, tried to open my door and had a knife. All I did was pull the Glock, chamber a round and begin rolling the window down.
He dropped the knife, wet himself and turned and ran. Never fired a shot.
A few nights later, a woman was severely beaten and raped as she was car-jacked from the same intersection.
Kinda made me wish he would have tried to attack me, if that was the same scumbag that got her. LEOs finally did catch a guy in the are who'd 'worked' 3 nearby intersections. IIRC, he got 5-7 yrs for several felonies on a police officer decoy.
I now carry a Kimber 5" Eclipse Target II 1911A1 .45cal ACP, and my Glock is resting comfortably in the dbl-door gunsafe, with my Class III weapons.
Love my CCW here in Penna.
Well his hyjacking days are over I wonder how many he killed or wounded hyjacking cars, scum can RIP.
