Bill Clinton loses his temper with David Dimbleby during a BBC television interview to be broadcast this week when he is repeatedly quizzed about his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
The former American president, famed for his amiable disposition, becomes visibly angry and rattled, particularly when Dimbleby asks him whether his publicly declared contrition over the affair is genuine.
His outrage at the line of questioning during the 50-minute interview, to be broadcast on Panorama on Tuesday night, lasts several minutes. It is the first time that the former President has been seen to lose his temper publicly over the issue of his sexual liaisons with Ms Lewinsky.
The President initially responds to Dimbleby's questions by launching a general attack on media intrusion. When the broadcaster persists with the question of whether the politician was truly penitent, Clinton directs his anger towards Dimbleby.
The atmosphere, which was initially warm, then turns decidedly chilly. One BBC executive who has seen the interview, which took place in a New York hotel last Wednesday, said: "He is visibly angry with Dimbleby's line of questioning and some of that anger gets directed at Dimbleby himself. As outbursts go, it is not just some flash that is over in an instant. It is something substantial and sustained.
"It is memorable television which will give the public a different insight into the President's character. It will leave them wondering whether he is as contrite as he says he is about past events. Dimbleby manages to remain calm and order is eventually restored."
Mr Clinton agreed to speak to Panorama as part of the publicity campaign for his autobiography My Life.
He was fearful for his own safety....screaming for everyone to GET BACK...!
Some kind soul told me it's linked off of a BBC page.
I really thought I was going bonkers, more than normal...
DubyaD,
I haven't found anything to help me with a gut feeling yet, other than that trolling through the FR archives(and some search links) has given me the impression that sealed coverage and background on the "suicide" may be available(though I have not found it yet). Also, sources with agendas have depict varying scenarios around Sandy.
Well, I kinda thought you might find comfort in knowing you weren't the only one that was teetering close to the edge ... :-)
LOL!!! You're a good friend, kayak.

Panorama Special Clinton. The Interview: In an exclusive and wide ranging interview, David Dimbleby quizzes the former President on his record, his political passions and how his public and private lives clashed. |
DubyaD,
Let's get the ball rolling. The following is from:

Sandy Hume: died 1998. Sandy had worked for Fox News for 3 weeks. he was the son of Brit Hume, journalist and Fox News reporter. Sandy was previously a reporter for the Hill Magazine. The Magazine had been the one to break the story about congressional in-fighting involving the Speaker of the House and Rep. Paxon in 1997. Oddly enough Representative Paxon resigned within 24 hours after the announced death of Sandy Hume. There was and still remains a total media blackout concerning the death of Sandy Hume. The 28 year old go-getter, news digging reporter was known to get a head start on the "inside" dirt within the Washington establishment. Apparent suicide was the only comment supposedly released about his tragic and untimely death.
The source isn't alamo-girl, though FR approved, and is arrainged chronologically.

"Some may have paid the ultimate price. In February, 1998, just as the Clinton impeachment was gathering steam, Sandy Hume, the 28-year-old son of Fox News anchorman Brit Hume, suddenly turned up dead of a gunshot to the head. He was covering the U.S. Congress for the magazine The Hill, and was known for his excellent sources among Republican insiders. Sandy Hume supposedly committed suicide, but friends and associates have questioned the official story."

Eeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww.........ick!
The title for the movie version of his crummy book, perhaps?
You got it, kay!
I figured you wouldn't mind my spreading that around a bit. It's one of the best graphics I've come across on FR as far as its impact.
It's impact is so powerful.
I just spent 2 hours down at my local pub chatting with a Reservist whose wife works there. I filled him in on a LARGE number of things, all the way from ~92% of the media voting for X042, to my trip to D.C. for FR's March foe Justice, to how X042 LOATHED the military, to why we are in Iraq and why President Bush is the ONLY choice in the election. And MANY other points. He GOT IT!!! I was so pleased! I gave hime FR's web address...Hope he comes here.
I think the entire week of President Reagan's funeral, and all the tributes to Reagan got to him, too. He saw how revered Reagan was for his accomplishments. Bill knows deep down that when he dies someday, he will not be revered. There will be no great accomplishments to remember, there will be no calls to place his image on Mount Rushmore or US currency, or even debates as to whether he was the greatest president of the last century. He wants what Reagan earned and received, yet his legacy will be a sex scandal. If Monica is still alive the press will be all over her that week for comment. The National Enquirer will have yet another field day. Bill Clinton will be remembered as a national joke and a liar; forever intertwined with Monica Lewinsky and a cigar.
Excellent recruiting ... :-)
Thanks kay.....I have known him and his wife for some time. This is the first chance he and I have talked much. We started out talking about my being an aerospace engineer.....he flies helicopters. Then came the question from him......"What do you think of (President) Bush"? Little did he know what he was opening up!! He knew NOTHING of x042 loathing the military, nothing of ~92% of the media voting for x042, and DID NOT KNOW that President Reagan never removed his coat while in the Oval Office.
The great thing about informing someone of things like that is that we never know how many people that they, in turn, will enlighten. One mind ... one heart at a time ... :-)
Thanks Wolverine....I have the book and have read it. I was telling my Reservist friend about the book and he was astonished that x042 LOST THE NUCLEAR CODES on one occasion. My fdriend didn't even know about the nuclear football, so I had to inform him of it. I will see if my Reservist friend would like to read the book. I hope so. It is unbelievable that this country survived those 8 horrible years.
