A Few of FR's Finest...Every Day...06-16-04...Celebrate Living #6

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Celebrate Living 6...

Today we are featuring more suggestions, observations and reminders on how to live a happy and rewarding life. Some are private, most are excerpts from "Life's Little Instruction Book" by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. Please stop in..and add your own. Also,, please click on the music link below (Songs of Africa). We guarantee the combination will make you feel good all day. Enjoy!
Sounds Out Of Africa

Suggestions on how to live a happy & rewarding life:

Take time to smell the roses.

Discipline with a gentle hand.
Rake a big pile of leaves every fall and jump in it with someone you love.
Volunteer. Sometimes the jobs no one wants conceal big opportunities.
Have a professional photo of yourself made. Update it every three years.

Never miss an opportunity to have someone rub your back.
Never miss an opportunity to sleep on a screened-in porch.
Create a little signal only your spouse/friend knows so that you can show them your love across a crowded room.
Drive as you wish your kids would. Never speed or drive recklessly with children in the car.
Don’t judge people by their relatives.

Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something, and has lost something.
Don’t admire people for their wealth but for the creative and generous ways they put it to use.
Remember that just the moment you say, “I give up,” someone else seeing the same situation is saying, “My, what a great opportunity”

Don’t let your family get so busy that you don’t sit down to at least one meal a day together.
Remember the three Rs” Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions.
When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
Plant zucchini only if you have lots of friends.
Every so often, invite the person in line behind you to go ahead of you.

Don’t go looking for trouble.
Don’t buy someone else’s trouble.
Meet regularly with someone who holds vastly different views than you.
Be the first to fight for a just cause.
When you have the choice of two exciting things, choose the one you haven’t tried.
There are people who will always come up with reasons why you can’t do what you want to do. Ignore them.
Never say anything uncomplimentary about another person’s dog.
Never miss a chance to dance with your wife.

When boarding a bus, say “hello” to the driver. Say “thank you” when you get off.
Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.
Set aside your dreams for your children and help them attain their own dreams.
Don’t confuse comfort with happiness.
Don’t confuse wealth with success.
Be the first to forgive.
Check for toilet paper before sitting down.

When a good man or woman runs for political office, support him or her with your time and/or money or both.
When a friend or loved one becomes ill, remember that hope, positive thinking AND prayers are strong medicines.
When you see visitors taking pictures of each other, offer to take a picture of their group together.
Help a child plant a small garden.
Call a nursing home or retirement center and ask for a list of the residents who seldom get mail or visitors. Send them a card several times a year. Sign it, “Someone who thinks you are very special”

Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
Whether it’s life or a horse that throws you, get right back on.
No matter how old you get, hug and kiss your mother whenever you greet her.
Watch “The Andy Griffith Show” to help put things in perspective.
Put love notes in your child’s lunch box.

Thank those who open the Finest door every morning with coffee, goodies and words of wisdom.
Give thanks for all our Finest Friends.

Give thanks for FreeRepublic

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Better than counting your years is making all your years count.

Beautiful Rus. It kind of reminds me of the "dots" eulogy...(what is between the birth date and death death date) Gosh need to find that! Between you and maggie...I'm sure you know what I mean and can find it. Thanks both of you for all you do at the Finest.

Never miss an opportunity to have someone rub your back.

Well, toots, here I am, start rubbin'. LOL

Morning, (((((((dutchess))))))) Love your thread! : )

Thanks finest wolfie friend. I'll take that backrub now after a l-o-n-g workday.

You are always so sweet about the Celebrate Living threads...It is not demanding "visually" but I really enjoy going through the books and finding the sayings. Actually doing it is an attitude adjustment for me. Hope other's here spend a few minutes doing the same okay..okay...my social worker background is coming out :o)

Hi Temple. Thanks for stopping by. Am trying to find a link to today's editorial cartoon by Jeff Stahler (he's syndicated but works for the Cincinatti Enquirer) Was in our paper today about the Clinton book tour. (Our paper is the Bellefontaine Examiner). He's usually pretty liberal but this one was GREAT and might be perfect for an upcoming thread.

P.S. Giz has gained 1 lb. since our cicada infestation. Can't wait until they are gone!!!!! Cheese on the way for Ink. Giz is "cut off" until he stops "eating meat" LOL!

It's nice feeling to have people you have never met before care so much about your life. I feel this way whenever I hear from someone here on the FReepers finest thread.

What a lovely sentiment and so true. What I have learned at FR is that you have lots of prayers and friends out there for you. And Haley has to be the most beautiful little girl I've ever seen... Enjoy!

Hmmm... I'd just posted this as someone to rub Wolfie's back - -

So when I saw this - -

with a such a broad face and nose, it registered as bovine, not equine...
the ear resembles a stubby horn..:))

I'm back!! And the transcription job is done! I think I deserve a long hot bath after getting it done pretty much in one day! Therefore, I'm not sure how long I will stay.

I can't remember if I mentioned it in my first post, but the little girl with today's pledge is precious!

It's been hot and rainy (muggy) all week in Georgia. Think it's clearing up to just be hot.
