---------------------
As you all may know, this tournament will cost you a great deal of money if you want to watch the entire thing. It is available as pay-per-view in entirety from Setanta Sport, for the price of $179. Individual games can be purchased for $20 each, and the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals for $25 each. http://www.setanta.com
For those who want to get a bit of the action more cheaply, there are other options.
If you have Fox Sports World on your cable or satellite system, they will be showing 5 games live this week, and the rest of the games on a 3-day or 5-day delay. Please visit FSW's homepage for more information and to find your schedule. http://www.foxsportsworld.com
If you live in Canada or have access to a Canadian satellite dish, TSN will be carrying the games live and on delay. http://www.tsn.ca/soccer/euro/
For those looking for the action on the internet, I have found a couple of options, but I'm sure there are more options out there:
The BBC Sport page has a link to BBC Radio Five ("Five Live"). This station has Windows Media/Real streaming audio, and they will be carrying the games. The BBC site also has a live update page, which if you refresh, you can watch constant updates of the game. This audio feed/page is free. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/
Also, from the Euro 2004 site, you can listen online. For a $14.95 fee for the entire tournament, you get the live audio and highlights in streaming video after the match. http://www.euro2004.com/video/landingpage.html
Please feel free to add your own links.

Greece's victory over Portugal, 2-1 I have a Portuguese friend who left yesterday for two weeks of football. The game today must have broken his heart. I listened via the BBC and Portugal seemed very flat. He sees his first game tomorrow: England vs. France, the lucky stiff. (I'll be watching at a secret location.)

Otto Rehagel, a German coach who was drummed out of Munich and Kaiserslautern, coaches the Greeks. What a trip for him.

Rehhagel: Celebrating an opening day win
|
According to "Kicker" the Portugese were in over their heads. The Greeks packed midfield, kept one point up front, and stymied all Portugese threats by the 18 yard line. They used their counter-attacks to keep Portugal honest. Rehagel's game plan worked to perfection.
When Rehagel was fired by Munich, he took the job at Kaiserslautern in the year (1996) they had been relegated. He led them to immediate promotion, then in their first year back (1998), won the German championship. The first time that ever happened in the history of the Bundesliga. He then fell out of favor in Kaiserslautern, and was uncermoniously 'pastured out'. This is sweet for him.
Congratulations Otto.
Early celebration: Karagounis after the 1:0 in the 6th minute.

Not only did he fall out of favor but the club itself is in complete SHAMBLES since he left. They could never regain their form and all kinds of scandals broke loose that he had NO part of.
Kaiserslautern would KILL to get him back... (deservedly so and I have a feeling we'll see him back in the Bundesliga after this tourney - wonder how long his contract is).
Tomorrow the first REAL "MUST SEE" game... France vs. England. COME ON YOU BRITS... (Even though I can not STAND Beckham).

What's your problem with Beck's??? He's been a great captain for England. Sir Alex was a complete w*nker for selling him last year. It cost Man Utd both the Champions League and the Premiership.

I was shocked by Greece's win over Portugal today. I expected Portugal to be amongst the favorites, seeing as they are at home. Of course, that brings added pressure and this generation of Portuguese players have been known to choke before. Spain predictably beat Russia today. I am so pumped to see the England-France game tomorrow, followed by my beloved Azzurri (Italy!) on Monday. I shelled out the $179 for the whole tourney.

I'd love to see the English win, but wih Thierry Henri on fire in the Premiership and Zidane as sublime as usual, I kinda think France has the upper hand.

I love Italy - although sentiments here in NZ will definitely tilt to England (no surprises again). If Italy plays attractive attacking type of soccer, coupled with good defence and high scoring, I will support them right through to the finals.
Most poeple like France for its attractive plays, but given what their country stands for politically and I have never been much of a French fan, I want them defeated. For Germany, political reasons, overtedly pragmatic style, history of winning with bare efforts to reach the final, and bad current players all make me thinking Germany must be gone ASAP. Spain is worse politically - although I would have wanted them to win on pure soccer terms since they are a good team and being the permanent underachiever winning something would be great.

Right now I'm in one of my favorite haunts in the old Country -- Brighton. Going to be heading to the King and Queen to watch footie, and it's a double bill today -- Canadian Grand Prix and then footie, so I can wear red and support both my teasm -- Ferrari and England!

Yeah, this is a great sports weekend. The 24 Hours at Le Mans just finished, Grand Prix coming up, and two Euro 2004 games today. Also, for you Brits and Kiwis, apparently there's some major cricket match going on today. How am I going to get anything done?
