It's amazing nowadays how little respect the 40 and under's have for hymns. (i'm 34) -- being involved in music and appreciating all, both old and new, it gets to be a headache.
Most people use this verse:
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
And there are other versus that follow:
Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,
May the soldier or sailor,
God keep.
On the land or the deep,
Safe in sleep.
Love, good night, Must thou go,
When the day, And the night
Need thee so?
All is well. Speedeth all
To their rest.
Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well; Day has gone,
Night is on.
Thanks and praise, For our days,
'Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As we go, This we know,
God is nigh.
I second the emotion. He's got a lot of his dad in him.
All the media talked about the cold war, but the biggest message coming out of this week is likely to be Ronald Reagan the Moral and Ronald Reagan the Christian. In some ways I wonder in the back of my mind if perhaps he intended this state funeral to be a form of evangelism.
Yes - in quietness and out of the spotlight, she labored in love.
Indeed.
It was a beautiful and magnificent week of pageantry and ceremony that was marvelous in its uplifting and supremely civilized execution.
(However, there was nothing wrong with making note of what Ron said. After all, he chose to deliver his message and it was received. Nothing more, nothing less)
'The spontaneous displays of love and respect the country showed to President and Mrs. Reagan must rankle the left.'
Especially the military, straight Christian talk, Jesus, hymns, they got to be going nuts.
I'm going to order one of those Reagan tshirts that says "Viva la Reagan Revolucion" and wear it proudly to classes when school starts up in the fall.
I think you are right! I was reminded of that when I saw Laura looking at Pres Bush while he was speaking and then when I looked at Nancy, she had that same look when he was talking about her Ronnie and her.
The similarities of the two couples and the two men came out so much during the last few days. I can remember when President Reagan had to attend funerals and he never made it about himself -- it was about the surivors. President Bush is the same way -- he didn't take these last few days to make it about him and get photo-ops. He could have easily went to California but he didn't -- that was a time for family and friends.
Oh my God, was that who that was? I didn`t even recognize her! I can`t believe it, is she really blind now? She played a blind woman in the movie magnificent obsession. I think she even won an Oscar for that flick. What a shame.
Sure, why not? We needed it.
And now I think God is up there waiting and checking his watch every now and again. Time is running out.
Yes ... a wonderful story from Ron.
Too bad he tarnished his speech with the insult to President Bush and his faith.
Both photos taken today...
Looks like a match to me!
I have some, but I can't post them. If you want to fm your email address I will send some to you.
There are some posted throughout the thread also. Mine will be pretty similar. Mine are from c-span so there isn't much in the way of logos or anything on them.
Just let me know.
Are you as anxious to see the coming response as I am?
