Sounds real to me. Didn't the exercise start on the 11th?

The date on this is the 15th...

Man oh man. Whichever it was, it was certainly a sharp jolt and rumble. Got my attention really quick!

The San Diego quake was a 5.1 located 59 miles southwest of San Ysidro...out in the ocean. Surf's up!

I did a google search on Grecian Firebolt and it looks like an annual exercise in secure communications.

Interesting that on the USGS site that the quake that was listed for up in the Mojave, is now gone. USGS is saying that it didn't happen up there.

Someone at USGS decided to yank the posting of the 4.7 near Lancaster. I wonder why.

I'm listening to Pat Abbott, the local guy who they dance out on the news when they have quakes and he still is referring to the quake up by Mojave. He must not know that it's been deemed "not a quake".....

He's also saying that there will be aftershocks. They are also evacuating the new ride at SeaWorld, something about Voyage to Atlantis or something. Afraid of the aftershocks.

This is a communications exercise message from Grecian Firebolt 04, but it does leave the possibility open that actual events could force them to discontinue the exercise and respond to the event.

Grecian Firebolt is a yearly commo exercise that links MARS affiliates and civil authorities across the nation in a tabletop communication exercise.

You find everything so quickly! Secure communications.

Well, that makes sense. We need backups for backups.

Ham radio is a backup.
GWEN is a backup (among other things.)

Just wanted to update you on an item that has not been mentioned at all in the local news media.

Yesterday, a little before noon, the Boston Fleet Center and adjoining buildings were evacuated. Acquaintances on the commuter rail station saw the people exiting buildings.

No mention on any local media outlets. Which based on how things work in my mind makes me believe there was something to this.

Exercise? False alarm? Dry Run? Who knows.

One of the groupies on Jim Berkland's site said the waveforms from the Baja quake looked odd. He thinks the Mojave report was bogus too.

Car Left on Tracks Delays Train Traffic
(snip)
Amtrak and MARC trains were delayed for almost two hours yesterday after someone abandoned a car on the tracks in Washington.

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said as many as 10 Amtrak trains were delayed, some by as much as 90 minutes, after someone drove down an embankment north of New York Avenue. Graham said the incident happened shortly after 4:30 p.m., and the driver fled.

Service on MARC's Penn Line was interrupted while workers removed the car from the tracks. The scene was cleared about 6:20 p.m.

Are you poasting stuff from the private forums over on TB2K? I think you are, and I am not sure it is considered good web manners to do so, but will check with the mods over there.

My reason for thinking this is that people post all kinds of stuff there that they do not want out for just anyone to see. You can understand how that might be upsetting, I am sure.

You better check the rules over there before you post any more stuff from their private forums. Anything posted to their public forums is ok, that I know.

AP finally chimes in:

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A 5.1-magnitude earthquake centered in Baja California shook downtown San Diego on Tuesday afternoon, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injury.

The temblor struck abut 3:28 p.m. and was centered about 60 miles west of Tijuana, Mexico, said Deborah Hedges, a spokeswoman for seismologists at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
