U.S. Charges Australian Linked to al-Qaida
WASHINGTON - An Australian held at the Navy's prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will face a military tribunal for allegedly training and fighting alongside members of al-Qaida in Afghanistan (news - web sites), the Pentagon (news - web sites) announced Thursday.

TMI is in the area. See Post No. 1254 for other possibilities. Now that I've been thinking about your chopper post all afternoon, I have seen a lot of helicopter activity over the last ten days prior to the start of military exercises near West Point. I live north of West Point and the Indian Point Nuke Plant and my office window faces north. There has been quite a bit of activity flying north to south along the path of the Hudson River. I didn't give it much thought at the time because there are several small airports and hospitals with landing pads nearby, and helicopters are not unusual. But these have been different -- military type and often two or more flying together.
Grinning...
I actually don't know about that. Could have seen it in the past and forgotten. The firing range was/is restricted air space so I never did survey it from the air. There is a large NSA listening station near Omak, WA, about 100 miles north of the Firing Range. Come to think of it, maybe you can see a large dish at the Firing Range from I-82 north of Yakima.
You guys (or anyone else in SoCal) feel the earthquake?? It knocked a bunch of pictures off my wall and freaked out the cat. This was definitely the strongest I've felt in ages...but I'm guessing it still wasn't too strong...unless it was centered further away. If it was relatively close I'm guessing 3-4? It seemed quite long, too.
Will see what news says at the top of the hour.
Just had a quake here in San Diego. This is the first one I've felt like this since I moved here. Scared the bejebbers out of me! It was a rumble then one long jolt. Of course, was reading this thread and thought of a bomb first! Not sure the magnitute yet but we don't seem to have damage locally. Hope you are okay up north WCG!
By the way, I believe this is an exercise, not the real thing.
I can't get to www.yahoo.com. Anyone else having problems?

I was wondering about it because that "suspicious diver" was located on the (or in the) Hudson last February or so, and we were speculating about his proximity to Indian Point Nuclear Plant.
While still in Connecticut, I recall reading a local news item stating that Indian Point would be running a terrorist attack drill. The article stated that they had run radiation leak drills regularly, but this was the first terror drill.
That's the one! Don't know if it's still used in it's former operational capacity or not. But that's it.
Yakima had it's own spy satellite dedicated to watch the HTLD (High Tech Light Division) operate and test new systems. My outfit tested the FIRST HumVees and the FIRST FAVs (Fast Attack Vehicles--the Dune Buggies used by SEALs and Delta today).
I once suggested taking a battalion of privates and painting a bunch of large rocks all white and then using the entire top of a ridgeline (all of which looks as barren as the surface of the moon) to write out something filthy in Russian. I think they actually considered my suggestion at a staff meeting but nixed the idea as a provocation or something.
Cave of Darkness alert?
I'm also hearing a 5.1 at Rosarita. Hubby's office is on the phone with USGS trying to learn more..he's involved with geotechnical engineering so can sometimes get information faster.
Although this one also could be it...
Will see what the news says for real, but this seems more likely...the news banner is saying felt as far north as LA and if it were the Edwards AFB one that doesn't really fit as much as this one in Mexico would.
In any case, we just got a good shaking!

hmmmmm
News "breaking news" on KFMB is now saying it was the 5.1 one in Mexico that we felt here in SD.
