Car Left on Tracks Delays Train Traffic
(snip)
Amtrak and MARC trains were delayed for almost two hours yesterday after someone abandoned a car on the tracks in Washington.

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said as many as 10 Amtrak trains were delayed, some by as much as 90 minutes, after someone drove down an embankment north of New York Avenue. Graham said the incident happened shortly after 4:30 p.m., and the driver fled.

Service on MARC's Penn Line was interrupted while workers removed the car from the tracks. The scene was cleared about 6:20 p.m.

Car left on tracks causes huge delay - it's the simple things (like box cutters or dilapidated cars) that may be the biggest thorn in our side. They still attack us in primitive fashion, throwing our modern technology completely off kilter. They could have accomplished a LOT of evil deeds in the 90 minutes it took to clear the tracks (while the trains were delayed).

The earlier post showing the FBI's lack of follow-up with the ME men in the boat and one with skin diving apparatus is indicative of the lack of seriousness with which such incidents are treated. I wish I could say that things have changed since that incident, but IMHO it is highly unlikely anything different would occur if that same incident happened today.
