Scientists analyze meteorite that hit Park Forest last year

The meteorites that punched through roofs in Park Forest, Ill., on the evening of March 26, 2003, came from a larger mass that weighed no less than 1,980 pounds before it hit the atmosphere, according to Steven Simon, who led the scientific analyses of the meteorite and who also happens to live in Park Forest

"Say you're in the food court, where is the nearest exit? We really need to be aware of escape avenues just to do basic shopping anymore."

Moving targets, especially those moving laterally to the shooter will tend to draw his eye and thus his fire. Rather than an exit you should be looking for the nearest covered and concealed position and take the fastest and LOWEST route to that position. Then you can start low crawling out of the area.

Here's a brief primer: "Concealment" is any object which will conceal you from direct view. "Cover" is any object that will stop a bullet. Cover can be concealment too, but concealment is NOT necessarily cover. Six inches of packed dirt will stop an 5.56mmx45 round (the round used by our own M16), not an AK round which is 7.62mmx39

Cover could be a roadside curb; a cement lightpole (as long as it covers your vital areas); a mailbox; or a vehicle where the engine block is between you and the shooters. Interior doors are probably NOT good cover. One more thing. Stay away from solid walls in a corridor or from kneeling beside a vehicle door (between the wheelbase) This is because of the odd angles generated by a bullet that riccochets. Instead of behaving like a cue ball and truly bouncing at an angle, a bullet will strike a solid object like a wall or floor and bounce up and move PARALELL to that object about 4-6 inches off the surface. It's only natural to want to 'hug" any large surface for safety. But when the bullets are flying it can be a lethal mistake. The Rangers found this out in the alleys of Mogadishu.

This presupposes that the attack will be a shooting. If it's a suicide bomber, you probably won't detect anything before the blast. If it goes and you are not injured, get on a cell and call the EMT's and cops. Then haul A$$ in case there is another device which is designed to catch the First Responders.

Feel free to print my post and xerox. PLASTER it everywhere. And you can add this: When we're out at dinner and the check arrives I ALWAYS say (pointing to my much better half):

"Give it to the BOSS."

She's been teaching twice as long as I have, makes twice the money. We put our combined salaries into a joint account then we each get an allowance for our own accounts. She draws a cash budget every week which includes food, dinners out, entertainment, etc. She makes sure we live inside that budget. We're almost out of debt, using this system, which we learned from a credit counselor.

Thank you ExSoldier. Like your relationship with your wife, my husband is my best friend. Today we stopped to rent some movies at the grocery store. The clerk there informed us one of the cashiers (age 52) died of a stroke this past week. This is exactly the reason my husband and I retired early. Life is short and if we don't take the opportunity to enjoy it, we may be sorry later. Far too many people we know who retire at 65 live only until their early 70's, if that long, and by then, some of them are incapacitated. By pulling the plug on working full time and living on less, we take the trails, pick the berries, mushrooms and wildflowers (for drying) and live harmoniously (99% of the time) (with both of us having worked for 40 - 48 years past). The way this world is going, we can't count on old age alone doing us in. Better we ourselves call the shots even if it means doing without some of the extraneous things. Statistically we have about 12 years until death claims one of us or the other. This is our way of fighting those statistics and enjoying what we have left of life. Bless you and your wife!

Piper,

In the early 1970's Grandpa Ira, a 70+ year old man, said that every time we sent something into space, it messed up the weather.

Today I agree with him.

If you think about it, you punch holes in all that is there and expect nothing to happen.

Grandpa also said to never pray for rain, if the moon was full.........true, if rain comes on full moon, it is always too much and too rough.

Mossad:

I do believe that the next attack will originate from one of the bodies of water that surround the US. Our coastlines are the least protected, and Al Qaeda is VERY aware of it, as are federal authorities. The main problem for the lax security is that the Coast Guard, etc., have not been able to have the funds allocated by Congress necessary to secure our coastlines.

The Coast Guard is spread about as thin as they can get. Security guidelines for our ports were put in place, sometime around the beginning of the year, with a fine of $25,000 supposedly being imposed, for noncompliance. Last I checked, the Port of Miami was the ONLY port in the US that had complied with those guidelines, and the fines are not being imposed....consequently, there is not a lot pressure from the federal government to make the ports secure. Again, the main reason for the non-enforcement is funding.

The US and British governments have been aware for a few years that Al Qaeda has acquired quite a fleet of ships ranging in size from a small fishing boat to large vessels. With the large number of ports on the Eastern and western coastline, as well as along the Gulf of Mexico...it is a dangerous situation...not only for Al Qaeda cells entering the country, but also the very real possibility of an attack being launched from one of those ships. It is common knowledge that there have been references to divers in images and posts from the Arabic websites. I think that all plays a role in what I believe is an imminent strike from the water.

The Eastern and Western coastlines have quite a few different seismic faults. Al Qaeda is not as stupid as we would like to think. In fact with the amount of funding that they have, there is not much in this world that they cannot acquire. Tectonic weapons were planted in the mountains around Afghanistan by Russia during the Russian-Afghan war. The sole intention was to trigger earthquakes making crossing the Russian - Afghan border, nearly impossible, for a long time. They were not all accounted for. Though unconfirmed, it is believed that they were planted in the same mountain areas where OBL was said to have been staying.

The KGB is said to have sold those weapons to OBL along with approximately 20 suitcase nukes (although there were roughly 100 suitcase nukes unaccounted for, it was not discovered for years because of the lack of a paper trail). It is also said that the suitcase nukes were designed by the KGB, specifically with terrorists in mind. Additionally, members of AQ have received training in remote detonation via a cell phone. In fact, there have been a few reports that they have already utilized this knowledge.

So, you take AQ's rag tag navy, our very unsecured coastline, a few suitcase nukes, maybe a tectonic weapon or two, along with their cell phone detonator knowledge, throw in the missing hydrogen bomb off of the Georgia coast, throw in a few divers on a martyr mission, and folks, we have some real concerns here! A tectonic weapon strategically placed along an offshore fault line may not be devastating by way of an earthquake, but could possibly be by a tidal wave that could occur, among other things Here is a google link on tectonic weapons: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=tectonic+weapons&sp=1&SpellState=n-2722310494_q-LbsuSg8kYqRe6kkja3iC8wABAA%40%40

As far as the cynics over on TB2000, they are entirely entitled, and should be, to be skeptical. . .

Usually, if i'm refering to something over there I'll just post a link rather than cross posting. That may have been the better way to go in this instance.

Cheney, in Florida visit, claims ties between Hussein, al Qaida

By MIKE SCHNEIDER
The Associated Press
6/14/04 7:47 PM

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday that Saddam Hussein had "long-established ties" with al Qaida, an assertion that has been repeatedly challenged by some policy experts and lawmakers.

The vice president offered no details backing up his claim of a link between Saddam and al Qaida.

"He was a patron of terrorism," Cheney said of Hussein during a speech before The James Madison Institute, a conservative think-tank based in Florida. "He had long established ties with al Qaida."

In making the case for war in Iraq, Bush administration officials frequently cited what they said were Saddam's decade-long contacts with al-Qaida operatives. They stopped short of claiming that Iraq was directly involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, but critics say Bush officials left that impression with the American public.

Cheney listed what he described as the accomplishments of the Bush administration in the war on terror, including fledgling democracies in Afghanistan and Iraq; and the decision by Libya's leader, Moammar Gadhafi, to abandon his nuclear ambitions.

Sen. Bob Graham, D-Fla., countered that the Bush administration had "a sorry record in the war on terror." Graham, former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, spoke Sunday in a conference call arranged by John Kerry's presidential campaign in anticipation of Cheney's speech.

The State Department said last week it was wrong in stating that terrorism declined worldwide last year in a report that the Bush administration initially cited as evidence it was succeeding against terrorism, Graham noted. Both the number of incidents and the toll in victims increased sharply, the department acknowledged.
