A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Let it be known that today, Wednesday, the 9th of June, 2004, is hereby declared Music Day at the Finest, and you may B.Y.O.M. or click on mine. I hope you dance, if you are so inclined; sing along, if the music moves you. Clap your hands, snap your fingers, tap your toes.....but whatever you do, don't just sit there - move *something*!

A brief note: most of the links are midi files, because they load and play quicker, though there are some wave files - several are full-length, beautiful songs for you to enjoy; some are clips to give you just a taste.

Now playing, in no particular order ...

Classical

1812 Overture
Trumpet Voluntary
Ave Maria
Fur Elise

Irish Love Songs

I'm going to linger here for a while. Sigh.... see you on down the thread a bit later. :) These lilting, Irish Love Songs are sung by John Gary.

Danny Boy
My Wild Irish Rose
Kathleen Mavourneen
I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen
Once Upon A Time
Softly As I Leave You
This Is All I Ask

The following song is dedicated to a certain Irishman (and sometimes wolfie), because it holds a very special place in his heart....right next to his mom.

The Last Rose Of Summer (midi file)

by Thomas Moore (Arr. Frank Gallagher)

Tis the last rose of summer,
Left blooming alone,
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone.
No flow'r of her kindred
No rosebud is nigh
To reflect back her blushes,
Or give sigh for sigh.

I'll not leave thee, thou lone one,
To pine on the stern,
Since the lovely are sleeping,
Go, sleep thou with them

Thus kindly I'll scatter
Thy leaves o'er the bed,
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead.

So soon may I follow
When friendships decay;
And from love's shining circle
The gems drop away
When true hearts lie wither'd
And fond ones are flow'n
Oh! Who would inhabit
This bleak world alone?

Oldies But Goodies

Is any music thread complete without the Beatles? Let your mouse hover over each one for their names. But you already know who they are. :)

Paul McCartney George Harrison Ringo Starr John Lennon

Yesterday
Hey Jude
Life Goes On (Obladi Oblada)
A Hard Day's Night
And I Love Her
Let It Be

Is any music thread complete without Elvis? He is The King, a Legend, and his music lives on.

Are You Lonesome Tonight?
Don't Be Cruel
Jailhouse Rock
Loving You
I Want You, I Need You, I Love You
Love Me Tender
You Ain't Nothing But A Hounddog

Country & Western

Real old stuff, real 'old' guys :) - Willie Nelson, Charlie Rich, Waylon Jennings, George Strait, George Jones, Glen Campbell, Roy Orbison, and more....

A Taste of the Forties

Just a taste...short wave file sounds from some of the songs of "the Greatest Generation" during World War II....

White Cliffs Of Dover
I'll Be Seeing You
There I Said It Again
When The Lights Go On Again
That's My Desire
The Boys In The Back Room
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
You Belong To Me

Cajun & Nu Aw'leens

Louisiana has it's own brand of music, which I find colorful and jazzy; but most of all, I find whenever I listen to it I just *gotta* tap my toes!

Jambalaya
Don't Worry, Be Happy
Jolie Blonde
Don't Mess With My Toot Toot
Alexander's Ragtime Band
City Of New Orleans
When The Saints Go Marching In
Yakety Sax

Divas

Bette Midler, Celine Dion, Diana Ross....there's no mistaking these three are Divas who take command of the stage and hold their audience captive from the first note to the last. I hope you enjoy these three full-length songs I've chosen.

Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler)
When I Fall In Love (Celine Dion Duet)
The Best Years Of My Life (Diana Ross)

Easy Listening

Easy on the ears... sit back, relax, and let the music take you away.:)

Blue
True Love Ways
Thanks For The Memories
My Heart Will Go On
I Will Always Love You
Argentina
Tiny Bubbles
Saved The Best For Last

Taps

We've all been thinking of President Reagan, and his family, and reflecting on the many wonderful things he did for our country during his two terms in the White House. I'd like to dedicate the last two groups of music to his memory.

To the Gipper, with great fondness, tremendous respect, and deep admiration.

Hymns

Because He Lives (wave file - beautiful!)
I've Got A Mansion
Amazing Grace
His Eye Is On The Sparrow
Whispering Hope

God Bless America!

And God Bless You! Thank you for listening. Most of the links are uploaded to my server; a few of the others might change sometime in the future, but for now they all work. Hope you will enjoy the music and keep coming back throughout the day!

YEEEEE-HAAaah!!!

First Premiere Concert in the newly erecticated "Uncle Jaque Memorial Pavilion"!;

Seated to my right on stage is my Agent, "Wee Angus" MacBAER, and to my left is a tin mucket of dark stout. It was a standing room only crowd, and when she stepped back to take my picture she fell over backwards out the door!

It don't get much better than this!

Them acoustics are right wickked nifty, Deah!

There's something that the happpy tweetering of little swamp frogs and the harmounious drone of mosqitos and flys that really adds a special touch to the kind o' music what I does!

How kind of you to do this and how difficult to control the flood gates while listening to Ava Maria. Any idea who the pianist is who hit the wrong key in Fur Elise? Thought I was hearing things until I replayed it again.
