Libs: Clinton More Popular Than Reagan
NewsMax.com ^ | 6/08/04 | Carl Limbacher and the NewsMax.com staff

Frustrated liberals, angry at having to spend an entire week watching the nation pay tribute to the man they derided alternately as "an amiable dunce" and a heartless autocrat, are now claiming that Bill Clinton was actually a more popular president than Ronald Reagan.

"In truth, Ronald Reagan was never as popular as he is being presented to be with Americans," writes Slate Magazine's Eric Alterman.

"As president, [he] was never even as popular as Bill Clinton during the period of Clinton’s impeachment," argues the disgruntled Democrat.

For evidence, Alterman cites a Gallup poll that tracks approval ratings for Clinton, Reagan, Carter and both Bushes to back his claims. The same poll is touted prominently on Democrats.com, a web site run by former Clinton White House staffers and DNC veterans.

Unfortunately for Alterman and the rest of the Reagan-haters, some of us still remember what the voters said when they actually got a chance to make their will known at the polls.

Clinton, for instance, never won more than 49 percent of the vote, managing that feat in 1996. And he probably never would have been president at all without Ross Perot acting as a Republican spoiler in 1992, when Clinton squeaked in with just 43 percent of the vote.

Reagan, on the other hand, trounced his two Democratic opponents in 44 and 49 state landslides.

In fact, no president in U.S. history has ever gotten more votes than Reagan did in 1984, despite the fact that the nation's population has grown by more than 30 million in the last twenty years.

When Clinton dies the crowds at his casket will be those wanting to make damn sure he's dead.

Myself, I wouldn't walk across the street to pee on him if he was on fire.

Clinton was self absorbed, perverted and corrupt. Gore, Hillary and others are perverted, corrupted and ideologs that are drunk on power and their vision of what the world would be like under their rule.

The toon was dangerous...but his wife and people like Gore are even more so if they ever get their hands on power.

Ronald Reagan was the anti-thesis of this. Very similar to George Washington in this respect. They used their influence for good...knew that they served the people and were not only not interested in the vice versa, they eskewed it.

Reagan's tombstone will immortalize the words "tear down this wall Mr. Gorbachev."

Mr. Clinton's tombstone could read:
"William Jefferson Clinton is dead-- but that depends on what the defintion of "is" is.

Spot on!

I will never understand the liberal mind. They say they are for the common man, but their leaders have such disdain for the rank and file.

What in the world are these people thinking?

I loved Limbaugh's comment about Clnton not making funeral arrangements:

What planning does it take to get a keg of beer and some babes?

Perfect!

Far too many have given in to the whiles of the New Deal and the Great Society. Socialist programs more akin to the vision of Karl Marx than to Jefferson, Adams or Franklin and their ilk.

That is the basic issue...a large segment of our population has fallen to the lure of the dole and government handouts...voting for themselves the largess of the working citizerns.

Our challenge is not only to stop losing ground to this insidious attack and ideology...but to take back ground. We do that through education of founding principles, through exemplary living, through helping others, and through taking principled stands on the hard issues and not giving ground or parlaying on those fundamental issues.

Reagan showed us all how to do that.

Clinton never got a majority of the "popular" vote (for those to whom it's important), but did get 49.23% of that vote in 1996, not 46%.

When a good person passes, lights of truth fall from the sky as his soul ascends. The unrepentant sinners quiver like mice caught under a bright light. Their emotions rule them.

Let them put Clinton on a 2 dollar bill to remind the world who disgraced this nation.

They should comission a $3.00 bill in his honor.

Yeah, he only won the Presidency by a landslide while Clinton didn't even get 50% of the vote. Must be the new math.

Of course Ronald Reagan was never popular with the leftists and commie sympathizers they associated with, but I wonder how many people would stand for 10 hrs. to view Clinton's casket. On second thought, maybe we would just to make sure...

Years ago, the unpopular conservative columnist and commentator Robert D.S. Novak said that he would never again appear on an interview program with Eric Alterman. Novak said that life is "too short" to put up with Alterman's ravings.

The Democrats are safe so long as the "rank and file" doesn't figure out that it is being used.

A. What Clinton did with the Chinese

Is this a reference to Bill's friends at Loral giving the Chinese help targeting their missiles?
