Feeling sad and having just heard the news that President Ronald Reagan had just passed this past Saturday June 5, 2004 at 5:00 PM I switched my car radio from my local news radio to my local NPR, PRI affiliate to get my fill of the left by listening to A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor.
I can normally make it through the live shows but this last show I had to turn off. The show began with ridicule and cheers from the audience when the Host (Mr. Garrison Keillor) announced that the former President had past away within the last hour. Yes folks, there were cheers in the audience. I waited for the host to ask the audience to refrain from cheers and to show respect, but this never happened. I was so shocked, then I began to understand it is hate, how the left hates us.
I am posting a link so you can hear this yourself.

Segment 1 at 3:17 into show.
Thanks for the ping Dan.... I am gonna listen to it now, but I have to install Real Player again first :~\
Will check in later.
I still listen occasionally. They went on a tear against SUVs again this week, suggesting a listener get a Volvo instead. sigh
Garrison Keillor is both ugly and stupid.. probably thinks Al Gore is smart.
People see what they want to see. I love his show, so I see a nice folksy nerdy shy person.
Thanks for the advice. I'll listen when I can, then judge.
Go to the link and listen, GK was actually VERY respectful and nice in his comments. Seriously. Listen to them. It is only a couple idiots in the audience cheering, and I bet they felt stupid as it was clearly innapropriate - even with this crowd.
It seemed like there were two or three voices cheering, but the overwhelming response from the audience was a shocked or sad gasp. The jerks in the audience shut up quickly and were not heard from again. I don't know that it would've been appropriate for Keillor to give the *ssholes more attention than they had already tried to take for themselves.
Agreed to all of you on the thread that actually listened. There was ONE cat caller, Keillor was respectful and polite about the president as he always is about everybody, and just continued without stopping for a heckler. To slap down the one jerk in the audience would have been both out of character and and unnecessary interruption to the rest of the crowd.
This title is a lie. A gross misrepresentation of what happened. Some have been going out of their way to find offense at what they believe to be the slightest slight this week.... which I think is a waste of good energy.
Ohhh... sorry! Real Player is my LEAST-favorite plugin!

I've caught up and heard that...
Glad he showed some class and taste.
So I guess I will back off some.
Right now, I don't have REal audio on my machine.
"Having listened to the recording I would say that Keillor handled the situation with grace and it was a nice tribute to Reagan from a political opponent. I don't expect people who disagreed with Reagan's policies to hide their policy differences and Keillor didn't. Nor did he dwell on them."
That was my reaction as well. Keillor did not disrespect Reagan in any way. A couple of audience members may have, but that's not Keillor's fault. There are idiots everywhere.
His tribute was fine. Not everyone agrees with President Reagan, but all agree that he served very honorably as President.
This thread started with a misleading statement, for which I am a bit angry. It isn't until you take the time to listen to the segment of the show that you realize that the reporting was distorted.
I listened to the link, I think your way off base. Keillor gave a nice tribute to the president. One or two people cheered in the crowd. But far more groaned when he announced the passing of RR. His comment that RR had for years 'befuddled us old liberals" I thought particularly apropos. Keillor is definatly a lib but he is politically harmless and very entertaining.
It's an emotional week.
I think we are all tired and burned out.
Used to listen to PHC but was turned off to its politics long ago.
Laughed my butt off when the Simpsons mocked him:
Man (Keillor-like guy on PBS): [quietly] Well, sir, it has been an uneventful week in Badger
Falls...where the women are robust, the men are pink-cheeked, and
the children are pink-cheeked and robust.
[Audience laughs loudly]
Homer: What the hell's so funny?
Man: At the Apple Biscuit cafe, where the smiles are free, don't you
know, Sven Inqvist studied the menu, and finally he ordered the
same thing he has every day.
[Audience laughs and applauds]
Bart: Maybe it's the TV.
Homer: Stupid TV. [Hits it] Be more funny!
But you are paying this has-been's paycheck though your tax money given to that d*mn NPR. When will the RINO's finally cut this bunch of hateful leftists loose to make it on their own instead of remaining a public ward?
Ok, will you settle for a "slightly miffed" man?
This could be a character flaw on my part, seeing that I don't dig Hobbits or horses. :)
Me too. The correct thread title should be "Garrison Keillor pays respect in announcing Reagan's death on his show".
Perhaps Tank will ask the Moderator to correct it.
No. ;~D
Isn't that why he eats Powdermilk biscuits - - aren't they the product that helps shy people do what they've got to do?
