Feeling sad and having just heard the news that President Ronald Reagan had just passed this past Saturday June 5, 2004 at 5:00 PM I switched my car radio from my local news radio to my local NPR, PRI affiliate to get my fill of the left by listening to A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor.
I can normally make it through the live shows but this last show I had to turn off. The show began with ridicule and cheers from the audience when the Host (Mr. Garrison Keillor) announced that the former President had past away within the last hour. Yes folks, there were cheers in the audience. I waited for the host to ask the audience to refrain from cheers and to show respect, but this never happened. I was so shocked, then I began to understand it is hate, how the left hates us.
I am posting a link so you can hear this yourself.

Segment 1 at 3:17 into show.
If you're looking for winsome, you've come to the wrong place. Grown people, at least the ones I know, disposed of any winsomeness in their youth. If you want winsome, then this Keillor fellow sounds like your man. Winsome, with a bit of the snake oil for leavening. A sturdy Methodist or Lutheran, no doubt.
Well, if you don't hear that note of sarcasm in Keillor's voice then it must not be there.
Ouch!
Jumping Jupiter!
What planet have you been living on the past 20 years?
We're talking about NPR, for crying out loud.
Had Keillor done as you'd imagined?
It'd have be ME who'd have been in a state of shock. :o)
"I was so shocked, then I began to understand it is hate, how the left hates us."
Gee whiz.
...y'think? ;^)
Folks are just sitting around in your neighborhood waiting for something to cheer? Are there bleachers or something?
In my home (microsoft entrenched), if the internet fell in the woods it would not make a noise with out Windows.
> If you're looking for winsome, you've come to the wrong place.
Fortunately, you don't define Free Republic.
No, O.F. If I were the only one stating that there was no sarcasm, then your comment would be on the mark; but the opposite is true. You're the only one who has discerned a sarcastic tone is Keillor's comments. No one else has.
So your previous post was directed at the entire FReeper community? I was responding on my own behalf, and for no one else. My advice: Take two headache tablets and have a lie down.
Yeah, But KG was respectful. The one or two nuts that cheered are aberrations.
Really? Cite the post O.F. I think post #93 is close to your interpretation, but then that guy rescinded his comments because he discovered that he misheard the words, "lighthouse" as "whitehouse". Other than that, there were a couple of posts about Keillor the person (some of those sentiments I share), but no one but you was offended by his comments (as opposed to the actions of a few members of the audience). None.
There are others. Keep looking. Read out loud if it helps.
Well - kind of. I live in East Lakeview, Chicago, very popular, touristy, sidewalk eaterys etc., and very gay.
I live in the middle of the 8th floor of a modern 16 floor glass mid-rise. It overlooks a block of 4 flats that stretch to the next busy street which has more mid and high-rises. This creates a canyon effect. I have very large windows, almost floor to ceiling, they have screens for the summer. When they are open I can hear the people yelling and cheering at events such as the marathon, the gay parade and any other large gatherings.
On Saturday midday, as I was studying, I began to hear crowds cheering and yelling so I checked out the Metromix website to see what was going on. Nothing was scheduled. Hmmm? Then I logged on to FR and saw that Ronald Reagan had passed - and it all made sense. They were revelling in his death. How sick is that?
No, but yours was.
Goodbye.
Couldn't find any huh? Bye-bye troll.
If you have any decency and honor you will request that the admin mods pull your thread, the title is completely misleading, and your characterization of what happened is false and slanderous.
I just listened to it, and it was nothing like how you portrayed it. As he announced it there were 2 or 3 idiots who did indeed cheer and catcall, but GK immediately responded by praising Reagan for the civility he brought to politics(an artful slap back at those idiots, without giving them the satisfaction of derailing his brief tribute, and it indeed it was a tribute) He followed with more kind words, including how Reagan befuddled liberals like himself, but it was all respectful and classy on his part, and he then launched into a New Orleans style yet restrained funeral type number, which got a nice applause from the audience.
In this case I have zero criticism for GK, and in fact thank him for his kind words. As conservatives we never need to mislead or slander our political opponents, the rightness of our positions stands on its own. You are probably a very good person who let a couple of idiots get the best of your emotions. It happens to all of us at one time or another. But this is the kind false accusation that poisons the well and makes it all the more difficult to win converts to conservatism. Let's stick to the facts.
Goodbye, ladies.
Did you see this?
"Maybe people should listen to the recording before making a judgment of Keillor. He had kind words for Reagan and there were only two lone cheers in an otherwise respectfully quite audience."
I agree with your assessment.
