Reporters who regularly slammed Ronald Reagan while he was president are quietly seething now that they're forced to mouth platitudes about the man's greatness, former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan said Sunday night.
"[Journalists] are willing, over the next few days, to concede what is so obvious that they have to concede it - his personal goodness, etc.," Noonan told Matt Drudge on his radio show.
But with a solid week of commemorations for the conservative icon still ahead, liberal reporters will barely be able to contain themselves, she predicted.
"I'll bet they start pulling a few political [stunts] - kind of letting their biases out a little bit more. And I'll tell you, there's going to be an explosion next weekend [after Reagan is buried].
"That will mean that the elite journalistic media will have gone through seven days of talking kindly about Reagan," said Noonan. "I would say that by next Friday night, they're going to blow."
I'm ready!
This is the Republicans' chance to show the country how a funeral shoul be done.
Noonan is right to expect the media to blow on Saturday. From what I hear, the Reagan family is preparing a state funeral like none that we have ever seen. With the G8 meeting going in Atlanta, there will be plenty of foreign heads of state already here who will attend.

Rumors? I was merely alluding to his best-known on-air brain flatulence.
Share-zeeees!!
Well .. your reply proves I was right .. you are stupid.
Indeed -- thanks.

Exactly. It's funny to hear them at the point of tears as they praise Reagan, you can bet they'll channel that pain into more lashing out at Bush.
a little late for that I think.
Next week, the nasties will start...but the mass media will wait a few months out of phony respect (read: to minimize public outrage) before laying it on thicker. Then, in a few years, the so-called skeletons in the family closet will come out, the new version of history for the next generation and the destruction of President Reagan's character and legacy will have begun in full.
BTW, Bush has already arrived at the Summit coming directly from Europe. What an incredible week for our President. Please keep him in your prayers.
Agreed. They really hate being interrupted by news when they're on a propaganda roll. They buried the murder of Nick Berg with "Abu Grabass", but they can't bury this. I'd better pick up some popcorn today.
The poor press, what are they to do, Jesse Jackson
says they are all tools of the rabid right, it must
really gaul them to have to come out with this now.
Take a peek at the Jesse thread it's a doozy!
Democrats are the little guy etc.
Its a back handed compliment to the power of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy! hehehe
We know those accusations are being made with a wink and a nod to the Dan Ratherites while all of them delude themselves into believing this belated attempt at guilt projection is snowing us stupid, jumped up peasants. What's amazing is that the moronic left doesn't know we know.
I didn't look, but if they put negative stuff only on the editorial page, they're not as bad as the Los Angeles Times, which editorialized on the main "news" story on the top half of the front page that Clinton achieved more than Reagan. It was only in the 4th paragraph (very early in the article, since their paragraphs are usually only 1-2 sentences nowadays). Even a moderate-liberal lady I know who usually likes the LAT fumed that she stopped reading after that totally inappropriate sentence.
I call 'em the Masters of Delusion.
Of course, some are going in the back door. What papers didn't have a half page article on kadafi regretting that the former President died before being tried for war crimes? --with listing all the reasons this brainiac could come up with.
You go right ahead, and I'll cheer.
