Police seize legal gunowner

A gunowners group is protesting the seizure of a legally armed citizen in a bookstore by two police officers who responded to an anonymous caller alarmed by the weapon.

Michael Pelletier was browsing a Manchester, N.H., Barnes & Noble with his wife March 27 when a police officer, assisted by a colleague, suddenly grabbed him by the right shoulder and his holster and pushed him toward the corner of a bookcase, says Gunowners of America.

The Manchester Police Department officers, Chris Byron and David DuPont, ordered Pelletier to place his hands on his head, which he did at once, the group said.

Pelletier was carrying a pistol openly at the small of his back, which became apparent after he took off his jacket.

The officers then disarmed Pelletier and escorted him out of the store. Background checks revealed no record, but officers and detectives issued a barrage of questions about why he carries a gun and what kind of training he had, the gun group said.

"The pistol certainly didn't seem to offer any protection against the assault in the bookstore."

Your statement is confusing. Are you saying his pistol should have offered him protection from the police?

The pistol certainly didn't seem to offer any protection against the assault in the bookstore. Not that anyone expects to be assaulted in a bookstore

So your saying he should have used the gun to keep from being arrested or even just questioned ?

I sure hope if you own a gun you learn how to properly use it !

"Only a moron would display their sidearm in public."

If your definition of a 'moron' is a good citizen who is legally carrying a pistol, with a permit on his person, and doing nothing wrong, then perhaps you need a new dictionary.

"Is Michael Pelletier a freeper?"

But, of course.

Police are not morons, but you, and this idiot who got hassled by the police are indeed morons. Some joker walking around in a retail establishment, without the good sense to keep his weapon concealed, as to not alarm the general population deserves to get arrested. The reason there are concealed carry laws is just that, the weapons should be unseen. Some states do allow for open display, only as far as removing the gun and putting it in a fanny pack for instance, but discretion must be observed. Sadly morons like this joker who think walking about in public with a gun in the small of his back, are hurting responsible gun owners like myself nationwide.

"If someone saw it, it must have not been concealed."

Interesting comment. So if your jacket opens up in the wind, of if you bend over to tie your shoe and somebody sees the firearm as your pant leg rises, then you're breaking the law?

As I recall you don't have to have a permit in N.H.

Private citizens need to be discreet. Okay?

He wasn't doing anything wrong. Why should he pander to people with irrational spasms about legal firearms?

This a few months old I think........a rule most states impose on our RKBA rental agreement called a CHL includes blandishment which results in scaring silly assed sheeple. If Mike was in a Barnes and Noble he was in liberal enemy territory and made a silly error while working within "their" (socialists) rules of the game.

Concealed carry sadly means concealed , cloaked, hidden , out of sight carry till ya have to make a loud noise and a big hole with it in self defense .

Just how I think it went down per my position o the couch a gazillion miles away from the facts.

Stay safe !

Unfortunately, correct in most areas. Not in NH where open carry is legal.

If you click on the link I show in post #66, you'll see we did reprimand Michael for his Bozo-no-no, and he acknowledged the mistake. He admits he was asleep at the wheel on gun retention. Still, I gotta say, the cops' action was a bit over the top, to say the least.

"Some joker walking around in a retail establishment, without the good sense to keep his weapon concealed, as to not alarm the general population deserves to get arrested."

He should perhaps have been questioned by the police first, to see if had the proper permit, before roughing him up and arresting him for breaking no law. If the State of New Hampshire allows folks carry open sidearms with the proper permit, then perhaps the police in New Hampshire should know the law, eh? And if they did know the law, then what the hell were they doing arresting him?

The guy wasn't doing anything wrong. What is hurting responsible gun owners is not challenging people who have irrational responses to firearms.

He mentioned that he spoke to his governor who said "They're still doing THAT?" and then had his aide take notes.

More and more states are going to concealed carry only and doing away with open carry. It won't be long before there will be no second amendment at all. Hope all the concealed carry sellouts feel ok when this happens.

The state he is in still has a open carry law. What part of open carry do you not understand?
