The shock resignation of CIA Director George Tenet Thursday morning comes just days before the release of a devastating report on the CIA's inaccurate assessment that Iraq had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction before the war.
"Apparently there is a prewar intelligence report that is about to be released to the public compiled by the Senate Intelligence Committee," reports ABC News.
"We're being told that this report is devastating to George Tenet."
The report "relates to some of the prewar intelligence and some of the advice that Tenet gave to the president and to others in the administration in the lead-up to the Iraqi war."
According to Bob Woodward's recent book, "Plan of Attack," when Bush first expressed doubts about the quality prewar WMD intelligence, Tenet reportedly told him the evidence he had was "a slam dunk."
While no Iraqi WMD stockpiles have been uncovered, the Pentagon confirmed last week that at least one shell of Iraqi munitions contained the deadly nerve agent Sarin.
I'm sure his old pal Jamie Gorelick told him it didn't look good and he should get out while the gettin' was good. He should have ignored President Bush's request for him to stay on after he submitted his resignation the first time.
How about Dick Cheney? Move Rice to VP. Game over.
Dulles assassinated JFK because he fired him over the Bay of Pigs?! Mark Lane, I didn't know you posted on this website!!
Politicians have to deal only with PERCEPTIONS of truth.
Wait a minute, ABC reports? Since when have we been placing anything on what ABC and their "reliable sources" are trying to sell us???????
Yeah the Cheney move to CIA, Rice to VP is a good idea. Or even Powell to VP, Rice to State. That'll flummox 'em.
In what respects did he misread the Iraqi situation ?
Wouldn't that just frost Hillary's behind. Rice moved to VP position now, which would make the ticket for 2008 a slam dunk for her as president.
I thought you hillbilly holy roller gun nut nativists couldn't read and write!
Well that should give the liberals stroke
Powell is not going to satisfy the Bush base IMHO. I do not think he is pro-life and he let's his underlings mouth off about how peeved he is about this or that Bush policy. He needs to be gone in a second term, and I bet he wants to be gone. I think Condi is pro-life, but I am not sure. Any VP is probably going to need to be pro-life.
Well I do not own a gun and I dont go to an orginized church and I am not a hillbilly I have a couple of words for you, Screw you.
Powell would not take the job anyway, so this is all purely nonsense speculation. As you say, he is out if the president gets a second term.
Powell told Dubya either Tenent goes or he goes. Powell did not like how he was hung out to dry by the CIA after his WMD speech to the U.N.
I spell them ABCNNBCBS
You're dreaming if you think the report will be portrayed as damning Clinton policies or appointees.
I already said one can dream, silly.
Hell, State has been communist as long as the New York Times. They would have to fire everybody and start over. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I think Donald Rumsfeld would make a GREAT Secretary of State, and Paul Wolfowitz is ready for Prime Time over at Defense. Fire Mineta and put in Mary Schiavo. She would clean house at the airports. Get rid of Ridge and tap.... hmmm...Rudy Giuliani for Sec'y of Homeland Security. Michelle Malkin in charge if Immigration.
By God we'd get some action then. Oh, and shut down the New York Times, and Jail any Congresscritter that engages in subversive conduct.
Thanks for that bit of humor. I love watching all the speculation here. And as Bush announces this, he jumps on AF1 and leaves the country.
Yeowza!
Maybe this time we will hire somone from the intelligence community, if I remember right Tenent's background had nothing to do with intelligence.
