The shock resignation of CIA Director George Tenet Thursday morning comes just days before the release of a devastating report on the CIA's inaccurate assessment that Iraq had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction before the war.
"Apparently there is a prewar intelligence report that is about to be released to the public compiled by the Senate Intelligence Committee," reports ABC News.
"We're being told that this report is devastating to George Tenet."
The report "relates to some of the prewar intelligence and some of the advice that Tenet gave to the president and to others in the administration in the lead-up to the Iraqi war."
According to Bob Woodward's recent book, "Plan of Attack," when Bush first expressed doubts about the quality prewar WMD intelligence, Tenet reportedly told him the evidence he had was "a slam dunk."
While no Iraqi WMD stockpiles have been uncovered, the Pentagon confirmed last week that at least one shell of Iraqi munitions contained the deadly nerve agent Sarin.
Well one can dream I guess. I wish to high Heaven that all Republicans would arm themselves with the *right* talking points then some gibberish nice uy crap. If the Dems wanna throw mud all over this, then we should throw it right back at them.
Troll Much?!
Lugar is an ass .. no way he'll replace tenet
as for this report ... after that leaked memo .. I have little faith in the Senate Intelligence Committee
not bad, a few thoughts
I would NOT put in Zell Miller or Rudy G. I want them on the campaign trail this year not heading CIA. One name I will throw out, Jame Woosley. He "gets is" in terms of Iraq and Al Queda and since he was a Dem. appointee to head the CIA before I would love to see the Senate dems try to stop him.
Meow.
That was the first thing that came to my mind. I don't know if he would want it, but I wouldn't complain.
Cheney CIA Director!
Rice VP 2004!
Rice Pres 2008!
The only reason this report would be "damning" to anybody, Clinton, Kerry or Bush, is that the Left sold too many of the American people on the notion that attacking Iraq (as both Presidents Clinton and Bush did) for violating the terms of the Gulf War armistice, shooting at our aircraft in the "No Fly" zone, attempting to assassinate a former US President, attempting to adversely manipulate the oil markets and enslaving 23 million people (while murdering and torturing thousands) just wasn't enough to warrant a military response. But the fact that Saddam's agents or terror friends might plant a chemical or dirty bomb in our backyard, that was something else altogether. And that made Clinton, Bush, Kerry, Tenet, et al suckers for the Chalabi types with stories of an El Dorado of WMD, because everybody inside the Beltway knew, intuitively, that Saddam was a mad dog who needed to removed.
Ok Tenant's now gone. But if there was a failure, it was at the FBI. It needs to be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up. The "police culture" is not approriate in the face of modern challenges.
**I am torn. I really want Rudy to defeat Hillary in 2006.**
I agree --
but he could be an interim head of the CIA and then run against Hillary )
after he got and publicized all the stuff on her -- LOL <sarcasm off for the second part!
Kitty, I seem to remember Allen Dulles (or was it Admiral Raborn) being fired as CIA Chief by JFK shortly after the Bay of Pigs fiasco. 9/11, WMDs, Chalabi, what more would it take for Tenet to GO?
Cheney CIA Director!

I just actually heard dasshole says he needs facts before he comments....ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Bush has to find someone who was not duped by Chalabi. Anyone duped by Chalabi will be more of the same.
I thought you left wing nut cases didnt like the cia.
Dulles was fired, along with general Cabal, (who's brother was the MAYOR of Dallas in 1963......) after the Bay Of Pigs.....thus setting the table for Dulles'ordered assassination of JFK in Dallas
Who's he a sock puppet for? Does he have the same handlers as Kerry?
Never trust a Rat.
