Could be.

You I wonder are our ships out to sea because of a threat?

I wonder if they are Binny's trail and threating.

TIN FOIL TIME

Make a long story short. At one of our local convenience stores we have an Indian with connections. Smart guy I enjoy talking to him. Anyway he told me last fall after he had visited the UN ?????????? (don't worry I watch him very close) that we would get Binny before the election and he is still standing by this.

The other day he told me for sure we would have another attack before the election and he was not stocking up his store the rest of this year, just enough to get by.

TIN FOIL TIN FOIL TIN FOIL LOL

Thank you for the collection of links, if any of them scare me, then it is the one word in the last link.

"Polio", in cows and could possibly jump to humans.

This is one disease that I remember, a sister had a light case of it as a small child and it was touch and go. She survived, with life long health defects, but not major ones.

What I want to know is who invented it and gave it to the cows?

N.Y. nuke plant drill includes plane crash

By JIM FITZGERALD
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- For the first time, a fake terrorist attack was included in a drill of emergency plans at a nuclear power plant near New York City, with crews grappling with a pretend crash of a 767.

Tuesday's fake crash set off an ever-worsening cascade of simulated events for Indian Point plant operators and emergency responders. By the time the drill ended, a containment building was portrayed as filling with radioactive steam and portions of surrounding counties had been "evacuated" and residents advised to swallow anti-radiation pills. The actual residents, however, had no part in the drill.

Plant owner Entergy Nuclear Northeast and federal regulators have been criticized for not taking terror into account in emergency planning since the World Trade Center attack, 40 miles to the south in lower Manhattan. At the site are the mothballed Indian Point 1 plant and the active Indian Point 2 and 3 plants.

The critics were not assuaged by Tuesday's drill. The scenario did not include a simulated release of radiation into the atmosphere - an omission that "speaks to the farcical nature of this exercise," said Kyle Rabin, of Riverkeeper, one of the organizations in the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition.

"We want to know if the public can be protected from a release of radiation," he said.

He also criticized as "unbelievable" the announcement that there were no traffic control problems during the simulated evacuations.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will evaluate the exercise at a public meeting on Thursday.

The drill began with word that a group of men had been stopped on a Connecticut highway in a car laden with weapons and documents pointing to an attack on Indian Point. Then the North American Aerospace Defense Command alerted the NRC that a 767 cargo jet seemed to be heading for Indian Point.

The "crash" wiped out offsite power to the reactor as it was being shut down. Backup generators failed and a leak of reactor coolant raised the specter of a meltdown.

A fake general emergency was declared, and Westchester County ordered the evacuation and advised those who have potassium iodide to "swallow one dose now." Potassium iodide is meant to inhibit the effect of radiation on the human thyroid.

The scenario of the crash included no damage to the reactor's concrete containment building. Brian Holian, of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, said recent studies showed "most plane crashes into containment buildings would not result in significant releases of radiation."

Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano, who has called for a shutdown of the Indian Point plants, took part in the drill but "still feels the evacuation wouldn't work in a fast-breaking scenario of radiation escaping," said his chief adviser, Susan Tolchin.

A group of about 30 protesters, some in make-believe moon suits, were kept behind barricades outside the airport conference room where reporters - real ones and simulated ones - received intermittent briefings on the drill. One demonstrator carried a sign that said, "Westchester's A-Glow, Where Do We Go?"

'Low-Level' Leak at Nuclear Power Station

By Tom Wilkinson, PA News

Around 850 staff at a nuclear power plant were assembled at muster points following a low-level radioactive leak, a British Energy spokesman said today.

Around three times the normal number of workers were at Hartlepool Power Station, close to the River Tees, as routine maintenance work was being carried out on one of the two reactors.

Around 12.15pm a leak of tritiated water – a by-product of the electricity generation process – was spotted coming from a pipe.

A British Energy spokesman stressed the water had not come from either reactor.

He said there was no danger to the public and no-one had been harmed.

A clean-up operation at the plant has begun.

“It was a minor incident that we took seriously,” he said.

“Our staff are trained to deal with situations like this.”

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “An incident has occurred at the Hartlepool Power Station involving a leak of contaminated water.

“This leak has been confined to a building on the site and there are no off-site implications.

“There have been no casualties and the leak has been sealed and the affected area is currently being cleaned up.”

You're very knowledgable. Would you please go check out this site and tell us if that info is accurate?

The New York Scenario

I sent it to my father-in-law who holds a Ph.d in nuclear physics and actually knew both Oppenheimer and Teller. He also ran a nuke power plant until about twenty years ago when he retired. Now he's 80 and doesn't check his e-mail too often. So I haven't heard from him on the info posted in the article at that site.

Good Read. I am shocked that a US newspaper would bash the clintoons.

War in shadows

Victory in the 40-year Cold War came as we entered the last decade of the 20th century. Its end was confirmed with the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact nations of eastern Europe.

We will hear much this week about the late Ronald Reagan's key role in the final victory in the decades-long, tense struggle. Margaret Thatcher, Reagan's contemporary in the post of Britain's prime ministry, credited Reagan most highly with pressuring reform-minded Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev into the revolutionary changes that occurred.

In the wake of victory came the necessity to reformulate years upon years of government strategy, from military planning to intelligence gathering. The old enemy was gone; and the thought of a growing threat from terrorists was far from catching hold.

The CIA, caught between old-school methods and the new world order, found itself the target of substantial cutbacks during the Clinton administration. Conservative ideologues have taken to bashing the Democratic administration for the deep cuts and substantial alterations of methods in intelligence gathering for leading to the failures that allowed the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, to occur.

This is partisanship, as is trying to blame the Bush administration because it sat in power at the time of the attacks. It does not shed light on the problem or suggest solutions -- it merely attempts to affix blame.

America's intelligence-gathering forces were not what they should have been at the time of the 9/11 attacks. They were still redefining themselves in the post-Soviet world. The terrorist attacks focused all of America on how this very dangerous business must be operated in the future.

In a world of increasing technology -- high-definition spy satellites, listening devices, computer hackers and corporate espionage, intelligence watchers did not take into account the underlying need for information from friendly, human watchers in dangerous places. Technology was the way the game was supposed to be played. Then the terrorists, in their small cells and with nothing more advanced than boxcutters and a will to die, showed us what a terrible price could be paid for not having the information gatherers and analysts in place when they really needed to be.

This concept came to a head at the end of last week, when CIA Director George Tenet announced his resignation for "personal reasons."

Tenet, a Clinton apointee and one of Bush's closest advisers, has been held in high regard by members of both parties for his personal character and his professionalism.

But he couldn't be right in a position that, despite a vast potential for error, has no tolerance for such error. Tenet has told lawmakers that it will take at least five years for America's intelligence agencies to spin up to full speed, depending on funding and other considerations.

That is a long, long time when threats are coming on a daily basis -- even though no attacks have occurred in this country since that one terrible day.

Effective intelligence is a necessity for a government to protect its people. It requires a combination of the best technology can offer with the lowest-common-denominator concept of having eyes and ears in the right places at the right times.

Safety and security are not political issues, regardless of how partisan the debate gets. We are living in a new world. Many facets of our government, many leaders in both parties, did not recognize how the world was changing and who the new enemies would be once the Red Bear died.

We now know our enemy. We know what must be done to combat him. And we must succeed in the shadow war, or we will see the effects of defeat in our own nation.

You keep making the correction on 150 tons v. 150 kilotons. Just to clarify in the referenced article "The New York Scenario" we were referring to, here is the opening sentence:

"A 150 kiloton bomb (underlining mine) constructed by terrorists is detonated in the heart of Manhattan, at the foot of the Empire State Building. The bomb goes off without warning at noon time. It's a clear spring day with a breeze to the east." Go see for yourself. Here's the link:

Its pretty accurate for a 150KT bomb scenario. The big problem with the whole scenario is the fact a 150KT bomb isnt going to be accessible to terrorists for a number of reasons. Paramount reason being a 150KT bomb is a third to fourth generation bomb, and it has a lot of advanced technology in it.

You've got freepmail.
