WASHINGTON Several U.S. guards allege they witnessed military intelligence operatives encouraging the abuse of Iraqi prison inmates at four prisons other than Abu Ghraib (search), investigative documents show.
-- Snip --
At the Marines' Camp Whitehorse (search), the guards were told to keep enemy prisoners of war EPWs, in military jargon standing for 50 minutes each hour for up to 10 hours. They would then be interrogated by "human exploitation teams," or HETs, comprising intelligence specialists.
"The 50/10 technique was used to break down the EPWs and make it easier for the HET member to get information from them," Marine Cpl. Otis Antoine, a guard at Camp Whitehorse, testified at a military court hearing in February.

I agree, and that is definitely the strength of FOX news, but its also its weakness.
FOX has a tendency to follow the rest of the media around rather than report independently.
There are lots of stories that could be done about how OUR POWs are treated when they are taken. There are tons of other people who were taken hostage like Nick Berg. An Italian man was executed in a video as well, but you don't hear about it.
Gee, GREAT!! now the media can have 30 or 40 more days of this drivel. The "abuse" reported here is not abuse for terrorists being interrogated. What's with these GI's--jealous because their names haven't been in the paper?
While i do not approve of real abuse, the media, public, and evidently GIs need a lesson in what is and what is not abuse.
vaudine
Indeed. The beating the language has taken at the hands of many presumably educated people (albeit socialists, communists, and fellow travelers) has been a "horrific" "tragedy".
If FOX NEWS would only report the possitive it could not call it self fair and balanced
Actually, torture will get prisoners to say something, anything. The thing is, we aren't interested in confessions. We're interested in intelligence info that can be verified.
You'll start caring? You mean, you'll keep blaming the liberal media for releasing those images and endangering the lives of our troops. You'll also wave it off since "they do it too," and anything atrocity committed by a supposedly morally inferior enemy is therefore acceptable for the United States. Talk about your moral relativism.
They wear no uniforms, and have no legal rights.
Shoot them!
I'm sorry....making them stand is not abuse...it's stress induced for the purpose of gaining information....not the same thing as stripping people naked and hooking wires up and such.
It seems to me that some of the earlier pictures were very effective, because they were disgusting and pornographic. This bit of added propaganda really will go nowhere. People are tired of hearing about it, and there's really nothing new or shocking in this report.
I expect the press will come back to this from time to time, as they have with Bush's national guard service, but next week will probably see a new propaganda onslaught of some kind, who knows what?
Oh yeh yippie!
The lib media might get another week of front page cover to cover ad nauseum coverage of this.
[end sarcasm]
We can deal with why and how to fix it later. But we better deal with it.
The terrorist have no better friends than these idiots who are sure they are doing the "right thing".
Let's "move on."
When I used to work for a restaurant, I had to stand for 50 minutes an hour for 10 hours in a row. You mean I was really being tortured?
Back then we called it 'work'.
Baghdad (AP) -- Today it was revealed that the prisoners in Iraq were intimidated by food.
"I looked down, and there was this heaping pile of steaming hot fresh food on my plate. I'm not sure what I'm going to do after that experience," lamented one prisoner.
Sources have confirmed that US forces would often serve as many as three meals a day in an effort to 'break' prisoners and make them reveal information about insurgent rebels. "Sweets were very effective, I found," said a grinning Mike Neuhart, a military policeman assigned to the now-notorious Abu Grabass. "Generally, most prisoners would break down if you seved them a nice cut of beef, a little cheese, and some goats milk. Food is a very powerful weapon."
Several prisoners have reported that they gained 5 pounds during their 10 month stay at the jail. Several are electing to file lawsuits against the United States.
Do they get $12 an hour and a nifty red vest to wear too? This isn't torture, it's more lenient than what the average floor management in retail gets! Think Walmart CSM or similar positions.
The libs and the media have been trying to find problems since the first prisoners went to Gitmo, too. Remember the early reports from there last year.
The libs and the media are not friends of the War on Terrorism.

Were you a prisoner of war? Were you protected by the Geneva Conventions? Were you being forced at gunpoint to do so against your will or did you do this voluntarily? Did your employer threaten you with physical harm if you decided to sit down? Prisoners in Abu Ghraib weren't afraid of losing a crappy job, they were afraid of being beaten, or in some cases, of having their family members abused. There are many many things we do to ourselves as a result of our free will - when things are done to us against our free will then it ceases to be the same animal.
Back during Ruby Ridge I don't remember many conservatives saying the guy got what he deserved - that he was just a criminal and anything the government does is right. There was almost a revolt because what the gov't was doing was wrong and this was obvious to the consciences of the people. I prefer to not throw my conscience out because the victims now have brown skin. The Red Cross says as many as 90% of the prisoners at Abu Ghraib were there mistakenly. This means *innocent* people were being abused and tortured and this is simply wrong. I don't care who's in the White House, that kind of behavior by this country should not be tolerated.
Thank you. Pass the link around
What prisoner abuse ? I have yet to see any evidence of prisoner abuse whatsoever.
I've seen evidence of interrogation and psyops but not of abuse.
When we start sawing off their heads I *might* begin to change my opinion.
