Were you a prisoner of war? Were you protected by the Geneva Conventions? Were you being forced at gunpoint to do so against your will or did you do this voluntarily? Did your employer threaten you with physical harm if you decided to sit down? Prisoners in Abu Ghraib weren't afraid of losing a crappy job, they were afraid of being beaten, or in some cases, of having their family members abused. There are many many things we do to ourselves as a result of our free will - when things are done to us against our free will then it ceases to be the same animal.
Back during Ruby Ridge I don't remember many conservatives saying the guy got what he deserved - that he was just a criminal and anything the government does is right. There was almost a revolt because what the gov't was doing was wrong and this was obvious to the consciences of the people. I prefer to not throw my conscience out because the victims now have brown skin. The Red Cross says as many as 90% of the prisoners at Abu Ghraib were there mistakenly. This means *innocent* people were being abused and tortured and this is simply wrong. I don't care who's in the White House, that kind of behavior by this country should not be tolerated.
I was a prisoner of wage. I was protected by the regulations of OSHA. I was being forced at economic gunpoint to do this against my will. My employer threatened me with financial harm if I decided to sit down.
Imagine all these years later, I find out I was being tortured.
Where's my check?
Is this the same Red Cross whose affiliate the Red Crescent uses it ambulances to smuggle arms and terrorists? That Red Cross? The same one that refuses afiliation of the Mogan David Adom society, for no other reason than they are Israelis and Jews? Ask me if I give a rat's ass what they might say, or if I believe what they say bears any relationship to the truth.
Are you saying President Bush authorized and/or condoned the behavior by the rogue group?
As to your "brown skin" comment, it is President Bush championing their cause and telling the world they want freedom, too. It's the libs saying the ME doesn't want a democracy.
There is not widespread abuse and the media is taking any treatment of prisoners and trying to draw parallels.
