Prisoner Abuse Not Limited to Abu Ghraib
Associated Pres via FNC ^ | Saturday, May 29, 2004

WASHINGTON — Several U.S. guards allege they witnessed military intelligence operatives encouraging the abuse of Iraqi prison inmates at four prisons other than Abu Ghraib (search), investigative documents show.

-- Snip --

At the Marines' Camp Whitehorse (search), the guards were told to keep enemy prisoners of war — EPWs, in military jargon — standing for 50 minutes each hour for up to 10 hours. They would then be interrogated by "human exploitation teams," or HETs, comprising intelligence specialists.

"The 50/10 technique was used to break down the EPWs and make it easier for the HET member to get information from them," Marine Cpl. Otis Antoine, a guard at Camp Whitehorse, testified at a military court hearing in February.

Were you a prisoner of war? Were you protected by the Geneva Conventions? Were you being forced at gunpoint to do so against your will or did you do this voluntarily? Did your employer threaten you with physical harm if you decided to sit down?

I was a prisoner of wage. I was protected by the regulations of OSHA. I was being forced at economic gunpoint to do this against my will. My employer threatened me with financial harm if I decided to sit down.

Imagine all these years later, I find out I was being tortured.

Where's my check?

Give me a break, since when did Marxist ideology become fashionable on this board? You were a free agent acting in your own best interest with the option of quitting at any point. I hope you're able to see the difference between a wage-earning job in the US to a military prison in Iraq.

No, YOU give ME a break, apologist-boy. Standing for 50 minutes an hour for 10 hours is a piece of cake. Anyone who claims it is torture is extremely silly or extremely liberal -- or both.

standing for 50 minutes each hour for up to 10 hours.

...it's called driving the statistic UPWARD by defining the standard DOWNWARD. The Media has perfected this technique with youth gun-death statistics. All you have to do to inflate the number of 'teenage' gun deaths is include all the gang-bangers who get whacked before their 20th birthday. That probably drives up the number, oh I'd say about 900%. And that's what they want -- the biggest number possible.

If standing 50 minutes of every hour for what amounts to a single working shift is now abusive, somebody had better alert Wage & Hour!

The Red Cross says as many as 90% of the prisoners at Abu Ghraib were there mistakenly

Is this the same Red Cross whose affiliate the Red Crescent uses it ambulances to smuggle arms and terrorists? That Red Cross? The same one that refuses afiliation of the Mogan David Adom society, for no other reason than they are Israelis and Jews? Ask me if I give a rat's ass what they might say, or if I believe what they say bears any relationship to the truth.

You'll start caring? You mean, you'll keep blaming the liberal media for releasing those images and endangering the lives of our troops?

Yes.

You'll also wave it off since "they do it too," and anything atrocity committed by a supposedly morally inferior enemy is therefore acceptable for the United States.

Uhhhhhh....no. I'll express outrage if we start sawing off the heads of prisoners.

Talk about your moral relativism.

You think making a person stand on his feet for 50 minutes of every hour for 10 hours is equivalent to sawing his head off and I'm the one engaging in moral relativism?

I don't care who's in the White House, that kind of behavior by this country should not be tolerated.

Are you saying President Bush authorized and/or condoned the behavior by the rogue group?

As to your "brown skin" comment, it is President Bush championing their cause and telling the world they want freedom, too. It's the libs saying the ME doesn't want a democracy.

There is not widespread abuse and the media is taking any treatment of prisoners and trying to draw parallels.

I can't believe ANYONE is still listening to these prisoner abuse stories......they have bombarded the American people with this crap for weeks now and we are SICK OF IT. No one is paying attention to these stories, so the press should give it a rest. But they won't, which is good for our side. Most people realize WHAT the press is up to and it's not the good of OUR soldiers.

I about fell out of my chair the other night when Alan Derzowitz? was saying that WE SHOULD TORTURE PRISONERS. That ought to give the left a slight heart attack.

Oh, the humanity!!!

Oh yeah, they made them stand up. Horrible, horrible. Didn't let them shop at Neiman Marcus either.

Meanwhile, Arabs can strap bombs onto their own children to blow up other people's children and that is justifiable rage.

The 50/10 technique was used to break down the EPWs...

We call this "timeout" here, or go stand in the corner. This works on children, although I haven't tried more than 1 hour. A switch on the ass works much better though.
