On April 29, 2004, as a service and tribute to members of the World War II Generation, the National World War II Memorial opened for public viewing, exactly one month prior to the formal Dedication Ceremony taking place May 29, 2004. The World War II Memorial is the first national memorial dedicated to all who served during the Second World War. The memorial, established by the American Battle Monuments Commission, honors all military veterans of the war, the citizens on the home front, the nation at large, and the high moral purpose and idealism that motivated the nation's call to arms. The Second World War is the only 20th-century event commemorated on the Mall's central axis.
(from www.wwiimemorial.com)

Don't forget that you can watch the dedication today!! God Bless all of our Veterans & Active Duty!!!

Good night, Kid, and sleep tight. Thanks to The Sailor for his service to our country, and to you and the boys for your service as a Navy family. Thanks for helping make the Canteen a wonderful place where our troops, past and present and worldwide, can come to to relax. *HUGS*

I'm not "the troops", Kathy...I'm just a Sailor who only get shot at ONCE in a while.

There's no comparison to the lads in Fallujiah or Najaf right now. I'm Stateside.

I STILL would like a good night's sleep once in a while.

Cut, You are the troops. You may not be infantry or Marine recon, and you may be stateside. But, this War on Terrorism is only beginning, I am thinking. You may have it good now-(no shooting)- like I do. So let us be thankful we are safe and sound. So we can be ready to take the place of those who are not.

Ahhhhhh, the woman with issues type!

I encountered one of those at a writer's group I used to attend. I read an essay that I'd written about the day my husband died to the group. In it, I mention something about "years later when I found a lump on my left breast, my first thought was 'thank God it's not our favorite one.'" (The lump was benign, btw.) ...

Anyhow, the essay had me in tears just from going through the emotional thing of sharing it with others by reading it aloud. Others in the room were in tears, too. Then one lady went off on a tangent about my "nerve" because I'd used the word "breast" in the essay; she told me I showed very poor taste reading such "filth" out loud. (My thought at the time was: We were married! We were allowed to talk about 'em and/or look at 'em!) ... A young priest who was a part of the group interrupted her rant to tell me that he thought the essay was "a beautiful, heartfelt tribute" and he thanked me for sharing it with the group. (Even though I knew that she was the one who'd been out of line, later when I was alone I still cried over what that lady had said.)

Mojo, just to let you know, my wife and I listened to this song on our Honeymoon all the way through the Florida Keys.

It's one of "our songs".

Buffett might be a Liberal, but he's still one of the best of that breed!

God, I love that song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are a Sailor. You are a protector of America. You ARE one of "the troops". Maybe not the best analogy, but just as every business must count on everyone, including the janitor, to do their job to be successful, so must our military. Comparisons should not be made. Each of you must do your part to make the whole work. You are doing what you were assigned to do. As long as you do your job, and do it well, the whole is successful. And I thank you for your part in the whole.
