The television show Cops stopped filming in Cincinnati today after council members objected to what the show might depict.

Cincinnati Police Chief Tom Streicher changed his mind Thursday about letting the Fox TV show crews continue to film, which they had started Tuesday.

The law entitled, "Going Armed to the Terror of the People" is a COMMON LAW.

You would love Texas. A couple of times in the last few years we have had armed groups of KKK and Black Panthers out on the same day. Since they were armed with long guns it was legal for them to do so, but the pucker factor was real high on that one.

I felt sorry for the cops that had to keep those idiots separated. Too bad it wasn't politically palatable to just move the cops out and let them have at each other.

Examples of the above mentioned household items, when entering court no one carrying cigarette lighters, finger nail clippers, small sewing scissors or bottled liquids of any kind are allowed in the court room.

Why is that? Needlepoint scissors, in terms of sharpness, are right up there with the short plastic scissors you use as a child. Brand-new, a pair of scissors from Michaels right out of the pack will almost not cut thread.

What do they think I'm gonna do with my two-inch no-cutting-anything needlepoint scissors? They're not even big enough to be brandished in a menacing fashion.

I'm a little heavier on the accelerator than perhaps I should be, and as a consequence I know more than my share of Houston's boys in blue. (It's not the most flattering blue, but we'll leave that to another thread.) I'm always cordial when stopped, and will admit that yes, I was probably speeding

The way I see it, the poor guy is just doing his job, and it's my fault he even had to get out of the air-conditioned cruiser in a Houston summer in the first place. The least I can do is not give him lip.

The only time I've ever been less than cordial to a cop was when I was on my way to the ER a few years back with a kidney stone - and if that's not a reason to speed, I don't know what is - but when I told him my destination he followed me there to make sure I made it safely, and came in after me to make sure I'd be okay. That was very sweet, and I apologized to him in the ER for having been a beotch, and he said his brother gets kidney stones so he understood.

I know that blue you are talking about and that is one ugly shade of blue! You think that's bad, the Richardson, TX PD uniforms were so awful that they used to get mistaken for postal workers!

Okay, that is just NOT a good day when you get mistaken for a USPS guy. Now, a UPS guy without the extra S . . . hmmm . . .

Wonder why we have that ugly blue? Why not black? I've seen lots of cops in black in other cities.

Maybe it was an Oilers thing - that blue was pretty unattractive as well.

Oh really? That surmises that you or another officer are present in my home. Highly unlikely. I don't depend on police from any jursisdiction local, state, or federal to protect myself or my family. I take care of that myself.

Richardson finally got around to changing to the dark blue uniforms several years ago. Although their cars are still that funky blue color.

If I decide to take my Smith & Wesson on my 50-mile drive to my weekend job, and I get pulled over, do I tell the cop I have a gun in the car?

I am not a cop, but I do live in Houston.

That is a tricky question because you are admitting to committing a crime under Texas law. It being Texas, you would probably get away with it, but I won't take the chance.

You could either carry a small rifle, or get the CCW permit.

Take a good look at Brown County as a possible relocation site. Its growing very fast, and the property rates are reasonable.

Thanks for the information. I am looking north (Columbus) and west (Indianapolis), not in their cores either. If I stayed here, it would be the ringing counties and Northern Kentucky (prices being significantly less than a comparable home in Mason-West Chester).

You can take it directly to and from the range, with no side trips. Also, as long as the gun and ammunition are separate (usually separated by a lock) you are ok. You are supposed to put the gun in a separate compartment (the trunk) where you can't get to it to shoot the guy who just cut you off, but neither of my cars have a separate compartment.

Basically, you have to turn it into an inert object that you are transporting rather than a gun that you are arming yourself with.

But none of this applies to long guns, which you may carry loaded nearly anywhere, with the usual exceptions (courthouse, polling places, airports, etc.)

Ah, I see. Good thing the range isn't too far away, or I'd be tempted to detour for a snack or another Diet Coke or something and commit a horrible crime, and you know what happens then . . . we'd all be DOOMED!

You can take it to the range, gunshop, pawnshop or soda shop. You can also carry it while traveling, however there is not a clear definition of traveling.

You do not have to disclose the fact that you have a gun to the police unless you have a CHL, then if asked for identification you must present your CHL with your TDL and inform them of your carry status.

If the police decide to tune you up, you will be tuned up for something. Period.

Bottom line is to follow the traffic laws and you will not be stopped anyway.

What happens if I don't tell the cop I have a gun in the car, and for some bizarre reason he searches my car and finds it? How hosed am I then?

Your first mistake would be to allow the search without a warrant knowing you had a gun in the car.

If you are actually doing something illegal then all bets are off. It couldn't hurt to keep the weapon in the trunk if you are not carrying it for protection. If you are carrying it for protection tell the police why and you will probably be cool.

It is a case by case kinda thing and it depends on just how much the cop hates "civilians" and/or guns in the hands of someone other than a LEO or criminal.

Transporting it to and from the range, gun smith, gun show, etc is not the same as concealed carry. When transporting the weapon to and from whereever, it's supposed to be unloaded and out of arms reach. These guidelines do not apply to concealed carry.
