Perhaps W needs to push for an "Emergency Engergy Crisis" law.

Perhaps we need to use the current crisis to push for new laws that would temporarity suspend environmental laws to allow for drilling and building of refineries in the event of a national crisis. Perhaps tied to the price of oil or the the overall national average price of gasoline. The law could provide for a waiver from environmental laws if prices of crude or refined gas reach a "trigger" amount. Even if it pushed for a high trigger amount like $45.00 a barrel or $2.50 a gallon for gas, it could be useful. We all know that we have oil here in the USA and really lack the ability to refine any more than we already do. Thanks to green whako types it is nearly impossible to drill new wells or build new refineries. Its just a matter of time before we can no longer refine enough here to keep up with the demand. That is were this law would win in the long run. How many liberals would dare vote against a crisis bill that would not trigger until $2.50 a gallon? If they did, they would certainly provide an issue to beat them over the head with near election time. Imagine the commercials that would become of a "no" vote. Just a thought

Any thoughts on this? I am just floating an idea but it seems like now is the time to hit this. Gas prices are high and the dems are trying to make it their issue. Just take it away from them.

Seeing how he's done well with strategery, an engergy policy would make sense.

Not to worry...when I saw the topic listing, I thought it had been done on purpose!

I had not seen that post until you pointed it out to me. Sounds like they are trying to get approval for new drilling and refineries which could be tough to get but on the same track. I guess brilliant minds do think alike!

Bush announced today a proposal to ease environmental laws so refineries don't have to waste capacity formulating "designer blends" of gasoline for certain cities and regions. But, I suspect soon we will hear the deafening outrage of the wackos screaming at the top of their ganga-ladened lungs: "Bush is anti- environment!!!!"
W can't win with these idiots no matter what he does to try to please them, so I say to hell with them; do what is best for the country.....

We need an emergency law to overhaul and streamline nuclear licensing procedures and refinery construction regulations.
Ten years from now we could have 20 fresh, third-generation reactors and half a dozen new megarefineries online.
By that time, we'll need them.

Pushing for the immediate change may be to hard to swing but a future trigger would be harder to refuse. I think we all know that it would not take much of a terrorist act to push up the costs of oil and gas. If AQ hit the Saudis or one of our refineries it would cause the trigger to be met. If there were not limitations on the process, we could authorize a bunch of new projects in the event of a crisis. It could easily happen.

I think you have a good idea.
I also think that there is no interest on the part of our president to do any such thing.
It's a nice conversation piece, though........

Too bad, I would love to see some Dems vote against a Crisis bill with a $2.50 per gallon trigger. People are screaming (including Democrat talking heads)over $1.95 per gallon now.

The RATS would not allow it, the environment don't you know.

Gas prices are not that high really. The prices will drop in the coming months. Of course, almost any decrease in gov't regualation is good.

Instead of requiring an environmental impact statement to be included in all new laws, perhaps we should require an economic impact statement.
